Night Photography by Adam

INSTRUCTIONS: Explore your neighborhood in deepest, darkest night.

Share photographs and other impressions of your exploration.

I have decided to update this task as I absolutly love doing it and I thought that this, more recent, completion was of a higher quality than the previous one but, obviously, it being from Glasnost I cannot unsubmit it.

It was 18:15 at Norwich Railway Station and I jumped off the Great Yarmouth train on an impulse and got on the 18:30 service to London. I arrived at about 20:30 at Liverpool Street, had some dinner and went to Heathrow Airport to get some sleep.

I caught the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow, changed at Goldhawk Road and Hammersmith. I decided to choose Terminal 2 for my little sleep so I made my way from the tube station to there.

An airport at night is a very odd place, it is quiet and empty but it bears all the halmarks of somewhere ready to deal with large crowds. There are check-in desks, que barriers, information screens, benches and lots of signs but no-one there to use them. I went upstairs, sat in Costa Coffee and slept for a few hours.

I then got a night bus from Heathrow, through South-West London to Charing Cross and then walked down the Embankment, past Parliament, across Parliament Square and caught another night bus to Victoria Station, I don't know why I chose Victoria but I knew it was the first terminus to open. It did so at 2:30 for the 3:00 Three Bridges.

I then moved on to Liverpool Street which is like a second home for me, this opens at 3:30 for the 4:00 service to Stansted Airport and the McDonalds here is 24hours, I sat in the McDonalds, drinking coffee for a while and then I went for another walk.

Bishopgate is a huge office development next door to Liverpool Street which, during the day, is always packed with suits and coffee cups but at 4:00 it is oddly quiet, one security guard walks past empty shops, empty roads and empty roads. It makes a great place for night photography.

I then returned to St Pancras, an amazing station by all means and even better in the morning light, admitidly by now it was no longer night photography but very early morning photography. There I stayed until 6am when the tube station opened and I went off to Terminal 5 to have a shower at Heathrow, back into London and to enjoy a wonderful day in the city.

It's like an escalator but without steps, they normally go along flat surfaces. Tesco's is creepy with no people in it!

They were ancient. I decided to give the task a fresh lick of enthusiasm.
