Virtual Nation Building by Adam, Charlie Fish

December 27th, 2007 8:50 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Found an independent Virtual Micro Nation. Attempt to get one "real" state to recognize your independence

The United Kingdom of Pascifitonia and Elsen

pascflg2a34222.jpg

Welcome to Pascifitonia! The 'land of a thousand lakes', with a hundred miles of busy beaches, Pascifitonia is famed for its lively traditional percussion music, and the pomp and ceremony of its ancient monarchy. Delightfully long summer days, pleasantly low-key cities, unspoiled fishing villages and rich historic sites that include Celtic battlefields and medieval stave churches.

Pascifitonia retains a robust frontier character unusual in Europe. In recent years it has developed from a small 'hermit state' into a regional trading power with a precocious economy. The centre-left wing "Green Liberal Alliance" has been in power since 1994 and, with its strong environmental and economic focus, is still very popular.

However, there has been a recent groundswell of discontent about Pascifitonia's status as a semi-autonomous territory, and there have been growing cries from the populace for a greater degree of independence. So, Prince GYØ Adam and Ambassador Charlie Fish took it upon themselves to get tasking!

1. We bulked up the Pascifitonia wiki (check out this link to see the masterwork).

2. We wrote to 64 real-world international diplomats demanding Pascifitonian self-determination under Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (see pictures of the mailshot below).

3. We organised a protest outside the Houses of Parliament to persuade Prime Minister Gordon Brown to recognise Pascifitonia.

There isn't time to wait for responses before the end of the era, so we're submitting the task now for the sake of Charlie Fish's mission. We'll let you know if Pascifitonia gets recognised! (Or if we cause an international diplomatic incident!)

What you can do to help:

  • Become a citizen of Pascifitonia! - put the flag logo in the corner of your player photo!

  • Write to your MP!

  • Demonstrate!

  • Print t-shirts!

  • Hang banners!

Wow.
But everyone knows the Land of a Thousand Lakes is Minnesota.
Wait, no, that´s an order of magnitude off, the slogan is fine then.

Good tasking! Definitely update us with any responses you get from the diplomats!

In fact, if you get responses you might want to do something to make it come to the front page again ("I'm posting this task, and by the way, check updates over here") or in our mailboxes. Because I REALLY would not want to miss that.

How do you say "featured masterpiece" in Mokeran?
Postal codes, companies, such a lovely place, I am applying for a visa right away. This will make headlines, oh Prince, oh Ambassador...

Since it's a language I invented featured masterpiece is Feaatura Reedapesce.

Because it is.

And thanks for all the kind comments, Charlie did all of the task work and I made the wiki. It is meant to be my perfect nation.

A centre-left government, like that's going to be realistic.

I would renounce my citizenship to emigrate to any country headed up by Joanna Lumley.

Awesome, how long ago were the holding replies?

And are you going to join the model UN?

I am so glad that you did this, it always amazes me when people complete tasks that I create but you took this above and beyond

I owe you a beer my good sir, if I ever meet you I will beer you.

I don't speak for Charlie (who is certainly a beer man) but I drink white wine.

How camp.

Thanks for the praise as well, I thought this task was fantastic when I saw it.
