Add a colorful light bulb to an empty public socket by Daniel Spencer, Cliff Chang, tslö mlö

December 12th, 2011 4:29 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Add a colorful bulb to a public socket (emptied by someone else) take a photo and see how long it lasts. White, though literally color-full, would be awfully boring.

We added a pink lightbulb to an empty socket at Safeway. We haven't yet checked to see if they've taken it down, about 24 hours later.

We set out from Cliff's apartment saying: "We are going to add a colorful lightbulb to a public socket!"

Step 1: Get the bulb.
This took us to Ace Hardware, where we deliberated on which color bulb to get. After some deliberation, we settled on pink, as we felt it would be the most festive (although there was also a green CFL that was pretty appealing).

Step 2: Find the socket.
Around this time we realized it might have been nice to have premeditated this praxis a little more thoroughly. Turns out that there aren't a whole lot of empty sockets around. But we had a solution (light bulb) in search of a problem (empty socket), and by gum, we were going to solve something that day!

After a bit of roving, we stumbled upon the Safeway pictured above. The rest, as they say, is history.
