"Explore your neighborhood in deepest, darkest night." Considering that Jefftown™ and Amby D live extremely close to one another, and that Mr O is just down the street, the brave adventurers pulled together their resources and selected an evening to explore their neighborhood. This had exciting potential and was rife with allure.

Summers here in Chicago can be hot... ok, not just hot, let’s say SWELTERING! The week leading up to the date, July 22, was as could be expected; hot, humid, and sultry. Much to their dismay, when the evening in question rolled around, the temperature had dropped significantly and a strong cool wind blew through the city. Not easily diswayed, Jefftown™ and Amby D got prepared to start their venture out into the neighborhood!

Bounding from the apartment, Jefftown™ and Amby D began seeking the darkness. And seek. And seek. Thwarted at every turn by miraculously bright lights, they headed to collect Mr O.

Along the way an entrance to an alleyway beckons. Most certainly a potential location was found! But no, alas, they were not able to escape the lights... the alleyway themselves lit as bright as day.

As they walked a little further down, they were distraught, for even the sidewalks themselves glowed.

Collecting Mr O, they decided to seek out assistance from the Monk.

Armed with a skipping step and a harmonica, Amby D serenaded the Monk in hopes of joining forces to located previously mentioned "Deepest Darkest Night" in the neighborhood, but they were rejected, as the Monk hurried back inside to escape the chilling wind.

Deciding on a different approach with a new vision, the crew altered its course, and instead followed the glaring lights...

and found a glowing seductive den of 24-hour consumer crazed satisfaction. Basking in the lights, they explored their equipment options.

Selecting only the finest of adventuring materials, they ventured back out into the night.. and they knew where they were headed.

With the lakefront spread out before them, they knew that the "Deepest Darkest Night" in the neighborhood was under the waters of Lake Michigan! AHOY!
main_nightphotograph61915.jpg
They danced around on the sand and pranced to the edge of the waves, but with the sudden shift of temperature, not only was it cold, but dangerous! WAVES!
main_nightphotograph61916.jpg
Believe it or not, the lake was churning like an ocean and the undercurrent whispered like sirens, calling them to their doom.

Making a promise to return victorious to the large bright moon hanging in the night sky, our upset, yet determined adventurers turned away, unable to finish their goal. Amby D sulked in bed that night, staring at the unused supplies.main_me-upset1d65807.jpg

ZOOM!!! Forward one month into the future, August 25. Sure enough, after a sweltering month, THE ONE FRAKIN DAY THE TEMPERATURE PLUMMETED WAS THIS DAY!!! (zomg... sigh)

Refusing to be denied their goals, the trio stalked off again into the night. (Mr O with a little help from some liquor.)

Yes. There they all got into, and under, the waters of Lake Michigan.
main_p824032865987.jpg
The waves bobbed them up and down and the waters became strangely warm after the initial plunge.
main_p824033065989.jpg
With an underwater flashlight and camera, they took all their pictures and with victory in their hearts, returned home past all the very very bright lights.

A couple days later, it was discovered that none of the negatives from the underwater camera came out at all!! Proof that, in fact, under the waters of Lake Michigan is the deepest and darkest night in their neighborhood.

(Please note that Mr O was photographed on that underwater camera... along with the photos of us floating down in the grime of the lake bed. We have no pictures of Mr O from the successful jaunt, only because he was the one taking the pictures that came out!)

If I weren't so excited about the promise of future collaborations I would chide you all for not coming together sooner. But no, excitement wins out here.

:) Jefftown™ and I actually live in the same apt, Mr O lives down the street in one direction, the Monk is a little further down, and Meredithian lives just a skip and a jump in the other direction. It's a happy little neighborhood! (Chicago FTW!)

Excellent! The glowing sidewalk was my favorite!!
Other than the beautiful serenade, of course.

Brilliant, a vote for actually finding somewhere both deep and dark - and for not pulling a Lincoln...
