INSTRUCTIONS: Affix a message to a wild animal. Tell it who to take your note to, then let it go. Document your results.

When one wants to ask a friend to do a favor, there's only one way to do it--messenger fly.

Messenger flies are notoriously picky about who they choose to carry messages for, so we were forced to kidnap one.

Luckily, he saw reason quickly and, in exchange for his freedom, agreed to carry a simple message to Julian Muffinbot.

When asked for a response to the fly's message, Julian Muffinbot's only response was non-verbal.

The box was just to provide visual contrast so we could spot when a fly landed. A grayish fly is hard to see when it's just on asphalt!

We trapped our messenger in a plastic baggie, as has been done since time immemorial.

Our messenger was strangely reticent with us.

When we asked if she'd gotten our fly-message, this was our recipient's only response. Clearly the message hit a nerve.

What did the note say?
I can't quite make it out.

This is really embarrassing, but we actually did this a while ago and no longer remember what it said. So until someone finds that fly, we may never know!
