Biking by Thor, Rin Brooker
September 16th, 2012 6:36 PM
This task began when Thor got herself a brand new bike.
We wanted to bike 100 miles but one does not just do that for no reason, a feat of such distance must have a goal and so we settled on a goal that mankind has driven towards though out the ages.
(flavor misic)
Our first stop was a famous restaurant/brewery called Silver Gultch out in the nearby town of Fox. they make a lot of the famous Alaskan beer there. It was a rough journey for me (Rin) because I'm so out of shape and just about the whole way there is this 7 mile long hill called McGraph Rd. It was awesome on the way back. Flying down 7 miles of wilderness road with beer in my stomach and wind in my hair was something I think I should bring myself to do more often.
Total ride:
Thor: 32miles
Rin: 24 miles
The next stop was Rin making up for the extra distance by biking over to drink at the on campus pub! Since we don't live together this was bound to happen and makes planning just a bit more challenging. The pub is on campus where Thor lives so this evened us out.
Thor: 32 miles
Rin 32 miles

The next week we took a trip out to Gold Hill for try out the Blue Loon but it was closed! We should have called ahead.

We stopped at a place called The Red Fox Bar and Grill on the way back to achieve our beer goal. Rin discovered Killian's Irish Red.
Thor 41.4
Rin 49.4

On this trip we also saw a reindeer farm, the car the fire department pushed down a hill for fun and a part of a chair tied to the guard rail.

The next trip we went on, we decided to check out the refinery lounge in North Pole.
Unfortunately DISASTER struck when we were most of the way there. Thor's tire made friends with a nail.

Things got worse when the Google maps lied to us and we walked right past it because the map said it was a few miles farther away. Luckily, Rin had a friend in the area with a working truck who picked us up. Since The Refinery Lounge Looked like a scary abandoned dive we went to a nicer looking place we had passed on the way. Bad things come in three's though and they refused to accept Thor's ID card since she had received it as a minor. Flat tired, and dejected we bought some Mike's Hard Lemonade at The Oaken Keg near Rin's place and went home.
Thor: 59.4
Rin: 65.9
The next time out we went out we went to a bar imaginatively called The Badger Den. It's located on Old Badger Rd. In a town called Badger. We rode down Badger Rd. to get there.

It was the nicest place we had been to yet and we had a great time!
Thor: 88.4
Rin 86.9

To settle up a little distance I (Rin) headed to The Marlin, a seedy bar near campus. It was open mic night and I went to see one of my friends try a comedy gig. I was hoping Thor would join me but she was busy and agreed to let me count it anyway. Everyone was too drunk and noisy to hear my friend well but from the front row I got some of it while I sipped my Alaskan Amber. I was taking video the whole time as proof but it wouldn't upload on my friend's computer later that night and he discarded it before I could get it.
Thor: 88.4
Rin: 95.9
The day before I (Rin) went to Wasilla to get ready to get married Thor and I finished this task! First we attempted to go to a bar called Kodiak Jack's. Unfortunately, we ran into another closed door! It wouldn't open until 9 and I didn't have the time to spare.

After a little questing we found ourselves in a little place attached to the Gold Nugget hotel known as The Iris. We had a great time!

Thor: 100.5+ Miles!
Rin 100.1+ Miles!
Rin: I know this task is not documented as well as my tasks usually are, but I think lack of documentation is good proof that beer was indeed involved!
