INSTRUCTIONS: Whilst in Scotland, I couldn't help but notice that along the roadway, there were signs posted, simply saying, "Thank You". These signs were as regular as stop signs, or speed limit signs.
I asked my grandfather,"why are there Thank You signs posted?"
He replied,"Well, it's thanking us for driving safely. Also, if you can't read the sign, you're driving too fast."
He may have been telling the truth, but I preferred to interpret the sign at face value, like a bumper sticker that says, "Don't be a jerk." Just "Thank You".

Make a Thank You sign, and post it appropriately.
Thank you.

I was drawn to this task for its simplicity and kindness. In the first week of my introduction to SF0, I had signed up for the task, and started contemplating whom I would thank. But for some reason, this task took me almost 6 months to finish.

I wanted to find both an unusual place to put a thank you note, and thank someone for something they don't get thanked for very often.

I decided to say "Thank You" to all the people who keep the apparatus of modern civilization running: the meter readers, the mail person, and the trash collectors.

First, I printed a sheet of simple "Thank you!". Then I forgot it at work. It took me a while to remember to bring it home, and when I finally did after carrying it in my bag for two weeks, it was dark outside. I would not be able to take a picture. So, I pinned it to the bulletin board, and then completely forgot about it. When I would think of it, it would be night time, or I was at work, or out of town, or it was raining.

Then, I lost my camera. Suddenly, I couldn't take a picture if I did remember to finish the task. As I emerged from the fall semester, I made a resolution that I would finish the last four tasks I had signed up for before the end of 2012. So, I bought a thrift store camera that seemed to work for $5.00.

I grabbed my sheet of thank you's, my clear packing tape, and some scissors. main_1-1002520107522.jpg

First stop: the mail box, where I placed it on the inside of the mail box door. An added bonus: Whoever picked up the mail would be thanked as well!main_2-1002521107524.jpg

Second stop: Trash can. This one was an external application, but front and center where anyone could read it. I'm hoping the trash collectors, and whomever takes out the trash feels appreciated. main_2-img0005107567.jpg

Final stop: Electric meter. I placed my thank you right below the meter. Probably only the meter reader will see this one, as our meter is hiding in an odd corner of the yard where I only venture to clean the lint trap. But I hoped it will bring a smile to our meter person's day. main_1-img0004107566.jpg

I take my pictures, and go inside to finish the praxis. Only two of the pictures I had taken were on the card. I do some troubleshooting, and it seems as though the camera only works when it feels like it.

I curse. A lot. I finally had everything ready, but I still don't have a finished praxis.

I fume about it for a while, and start pricing out cameras. Yesterday, I bought one. I braved the sprinkle of rain, and went to take my last two pictures. The thank you on the meter box had fallen off. So I reattach it, and take the picture. Then I take my last picture, and finish my praxis for the simple sounding task that took me 6 months and three cameras to complete.

Merci.
