Night Photography by teh Lolbrarian

The neighborhood where I work is not so far from the one in which I live (an advantage of living in a small city), and it's... rather interesting at night, being part of and adjacent to a university campus.
Here's a new private dorm going up. It looks rather creepy at night. Even creepier: They're using non-union labor! With an allegedly dodgy reputation!

Here's a closeup-- the plastic sheeting is eerily lit and flap in the wind, making strange noises.

Same building-- the results of early experiements with the night photography setting. Cool, if abstract.

Egads, fratboys (presumably) in togas! How cliched! They get some points for the cow spots, though. The next group I passed had to make do with plain brown sheets which were not as amusing, nor did they photograph well.

This tree had an interesting fluttery ribbon.

Here's more construction-- condos for students this time, and a nicely lit crane.

Now we're on Green Street, where many undergrads hang out at night. This was a Thursday night, but that's more like Friday night in other places. Friday night and Saturday night are more like a Bachhanal (and not the good kind). The blur across the street may look like one very blurry student, but it's at least two, dressed identically! My guess is that these are also frat types-- I learned today that some in similar shirts were on a bar crawl, so the shirts may be commemorating such a momentous occasion.

The IHOP: doubtless a beacon of hope to desperate students late at night. It's not all that tasty, but it beats Speedway and its coffee vat and perpetually rotating hotdogs, which was the only option within walking distance late at night where I was an undergrad. This photograph makes me appreciate my real kitchen, in which I can produce real food.

A somewhat surreal view of the covered sidewalk by the condo construction site:

Walking in a different direction, I saw bright lights in the distance! It was tempting to use this for the Document Paranormal Activity task, but I must admit it is the stadium. Truly, I wish I could use this for "A Little Less Light, Please"...

Here's a more soothing natural sight. This is one of the many moments on this walk when I wished I still had access to a nice manual SLR-- a longer exposure would've helped here. The tree was rather beautifully lit by a nearby street light, and this was the best I could coax out of my digital camera. Sigh.

This is also not paranormal activity, but rather a parking garage. Night and the limitations of my camera actually make my neighborhood appear a good deal more interesting!

You got pictures of cliched fratboys in togas. Awesome. Points for that, and for your username, of which I very, VERY much approve.
