There are a couple non-human animals I see on a regular basis. I present to you:
Sir Bigglesworth, the mysterious mammal
here's a youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu1L9XhTazY
view that to experience the cuteness of the mysterious mammal in all his cute glory

He's a very bizarre creature, but very cute. He's friendly, not usually fearful of the larger mammals. He runs around in circles and knocks over small garbage cans, probably in search of food. He sleeps 22+ hours of the day and when he's awake, he's kinda spastic. He sleeps in piles of landry, blankets, or towels.
spiders:
Service alleys (narrow corridor on the side of your building for PG+E/garbage/etc.) and city blocks with a somewhat green backyard center *can* be havens for a variety of bugs. My apt building seems to be no exception, as the service alley is rife with spider webs. Usually they just sit around, but I was finally was able to get a picture of it while it was feasting:

he's so tiny for a grown-up ferret!
he's awesome - i love the "weasel war dance" in the video...
apparently mysterious mammals can die of blue balls if they're not neutered
