Down with Animate Elitism! by miss understanding

I saw this task awhile back but wasn't really sure what I would submit for it so I passed over it. I've since moved and the inanimate object that I have an intimate relationship is back in my life. It all started sometime in 2004. I am not sure what the first thing was but at some point that year I started to stick things on my bedroom door. Stickers, flyers, pictures from magazines, blurbs I found amusing as well as a couple of wrist bands and even some things from the gutter were glued to it. Eventually I had to start gluing things on the front since the back got filled rather quickly. What started out as just finding something to do with random stickers and other paper goods I ended up with became an ever evolving project. So many different moments of my life are glued to that door-the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between. It became more than just a project or a form of self expression and morphed into an intimate map of times past. After four wonderful years, my housemates and I were ready to go our separate ways but I couldn't part with the door. It hasn't been easy to keep with me. I haven't lived anywhere that I can hang it back up and think that eventually it may become a table. The last place I lived was so small that I had to keep it down in the basement where I barely had access to it. Thankfully my new place finds me with a lot more space so my door is out and ready to take down whatever comes next.

Although I still don't have anywhere to hang it, I plan to keep on working on it now that I have access to it again. I've got a box of all the things I wanted to add but wasn't able to when I was at my old place and am looking forward to adding them on.

Vote for taking the door with you all these years.
(Is that like stealing towels from hotel rooms?)

I would think it might be more like stealing a dresser or a chair.
My landlord was actually who helped me take it down so that I could take it with me when I moved. I've known him since I was a kid so he was very understanding about both what I had done to the door and my wanting to take it with me.
I hope you will find a place for you door and continue to add to it, like a growing collage journal.
