Human Seed by Waffle, The Found Walrus, Dopey, Lincøln, Jellybean of Thark

September 24th, 2008 12:53 PM / Location: 33.937336,-118.4396

INSTRUCTIONS: Bury yourself in a public place such that only your head is showing.

   This task is Human Seed.

But it is so much more.

But since Human Seed is what we're submitting under, let's get to that first. When we arrived at the beach to bury ourselves, we were only five members strong.

But that's OK. We could make do with what we had. The first order of business was to dig five appropriately sized holes to fit us all in. Working without shovels, this wasn't as rough going as we expected.     We drew the attention of the local gendarmerie who wanted to make sure we weren't digging our own fire pit.

By the time we were starting hole number three there was some dispute as to the number of holes to dig. Some people didn't want to go in the holes. Some people had their doubts. Natalie didn't want to go into a hole for undisclosed reasons and C.M. also didn't want to because he's certain that he is very claustrophobic.

So we decided that we would stop at three holes and it would be a three person completion. But as we were finishing the third hole, The Walrus convinced C.M. to go into a hole. We would bury him last in case his claustrophobia got the better of him he could rip himself out.
And then after digging the fourth hole Natalie decided that she could go in a hole if she was sharing a hole with Teddy.

So we were all set. Lincoln decided that the order should be Natalie & Teddy to be buried first and then The Walrus, then C.M. and then he would bury himself.

   Which is what happened.

And just before burying himself, Lincoln put his camera on a board nearby so that when a stranger came along, we could ask that stranger to take a photograph of us.

So the five of us sat buried in the sand. C.M. (who you'll remember was so afraid he would be too claustrophobic to withstand being buried) commented how nice and warm the sand felt as he was being buried, and actually managed to fall asleep shortly after being tucked in the cozy sand blanket. Teddy and Natalie were pinching each other and messing around the whole time, head-butting each other etc. Lincoln and the Walrus busied themselves with finding somebody to stop to take a photograph.

At last a young man who looked pretty cool happened by and Lincoln called out to him and asked him if he could take some pictures of our buried selves. He agreed. His name was Dimitri and he was very nice. Turns out that Dimitri is a photographer and he rather enjoyed taking photos of us.

We encouraged him to take as many as he liked. Dimitri was convinced that he was done and put the camera back and left us alone. But it turns out being buried is rather comfy. So we all stayed sitting encased in warm sand for awhile.

And then The Walrus asked Lincoln if she could get out.
It was agreed that we had fulfilled the task to the letter, and it was probably pretty well documented, so we ran off to jump in the ocean (after waking C.M.). Natalie & Teddy decided not to go jump in the water. But Lincoln, C.M. and The Walrus had a blast frolicking about in the surf. The three of them also picked a fight with the Pacific.

And if you're curious about who won, it should be noted that we're still here.

And there ends our tale of The Human Seed.

But that's not the end of this praxis. Because we spent the whole day at the beach and had many adventures. When we got back from galavanting in the waves, Dimitri and his three hip friends asked if they could use our bonfire to cook their marshmellows and hot dogs and whatever, and we decided to invite them all over to join us, which they did. We were all especially taken by Kim, who was a lot of fun. They shared their marshmellows with us.

And then Waldo showed up, and much rejoicing was had.

And we devised a game where we buried a triangular piece of wood in the sand and then tried to balance on a piece of wood straddling it. It was a lot more fun (or as Lincoln likes to say "funner") than it sounds. Especially when we put two people on it. It was about this time that Heatherlynn showed up, and more rejoicing was had.

And then a ways down the beach, a large group came with tables and coolers and propane tanks and they looked they were ready for a huge party, and after a few minutes of them establishing themselves, they sent delegates over to our little party and asked if they could use our fire to cook their burgers, because the propane tanks they brought were empty. We happily invited them over.

After the cooking of the burgers, the other group invited us to eat their food. And since C.M. forgot the hell out of the hot dogs he had bought for this occasion, and Lincoln didn't get anything, expecting a point in his day where he would pass a market, and all Teddy & Natalie brought were (delicious) brownie cookies, Kool-Aid, and chips, the burgers were most welcome.

After we had eaten and were telling stories by the campfire of good times past, the entire Clarinet section of the USC marching band showed up and asked if they could sit by our fire. We said sure, of course, the two that asked said they were a lot of them. We told them that was perfect, the more the merrier. Soon after 25 clarinetists were surrounding the fire.

This is when Lord Bojangles Winston-Jones arrived (he was late because he rode his bike from Century City. That's far. Google map it if you like, I dare you!). And that made our group complete. Well, everybody that was coming was there. There was still a large contingent of LAØ that was not there, but I guess they had better things to do (little did Tac know that if he skipped work to come, he could have submitted it as a task.  Nice goin', Tac.).

I think it was JJason, it only shows who tagged on the specific thing when you rollover.

(Anywho, it wont be staying here for long. Our Human Seed praxis should go in tomorrow morning, if the video upload goes to plan.)

Having it said that "there was much rejoicing" upon your arrival is so much more gratifying than the points I am missing out on for failing to en-hole myself. Also, I believe the small CGØ logo was envisioned as something we would burn with Insatiability, before ushering in the grander LAØ logo to auger our growth in Every Day Life.

Points above and beyond a high-point task because everyone there did it and thus had to get a stranger to take photos for evidence.

Also you have provided me with pictures of the place of my only happy memory in LA. Thank you :)

-1 for doing it in the obvious place: a sandy beach

+6 for burying EVERYONE and having strangers take the photos.

Gotta earn me some votin' points so's I can give this the vote it deserves.

I just have 2p's for you cause the penny-task brings dissapointingly low vote-points income (I think that this voting system has actually no rules) - so this is all I got and I don't want to wait.
But: I really enjoyed the read and the pics. Very well done.

Points for planting human seeds and literally growing a group of humans from your seedlings :)
