The Ukrainian Commemorative Spoon by Great President Dad

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a souvenir from a country you have never been to.

In my family, it's not uncommon to bring back musical recordings as souvenirs, so I decided to sing and record a song that could pass as a souvenir from Mongolia. Then I only had to come up with a fictional background for the album.

Ladies and Gentlemen, from their debut album, "It's gonna be one hell of a Nadaam" the Mongolian Wrestling Assn. Choir sings Монгол улсын төрийн дуулал, the National Anthem of Mongolia.

Okay, I was really happy when I came across this task, because I am freakin obsessed with Mongolia. I have a Mongolian flag up in my room, whenever I had a social studies project, I would always find a way to do it about Mongolia, I have a youtube playlist dedicated to Mongolian Hip-Hop, and for a while, I claimed to be the reincarnation of Genghis Khan.

But perhaps my favorite thing about Mongolia is their national anthem, which is titled creatively, "The Mongol National Hymn". But it is a truly fantastic piece of music. Despite using very traditional classical chord progressions, it manages to keep some Mongolian identity in the melody (and believe me, music is HUGE in Mongolian culture. They are the Cowboys of the East).

I have all these old record albums of choirs that just seem to have sprung out of nowhere. It seems like back in the day, everybody and their mamma was founding a chorus and cutting a record. My favorite is "The Korean Christian Children's Choir". I wanted to give the album that same feeling of being obscure in a mundane way. (And Nadaam is a festival of horse racing and wrestling).

I hope I gave this song--and this country--the respect it deserves.

Thanks for listening!

Never mind that it's completely the wrong dimensions. It's funny.

I like it. I would like it better if the result was an actual, physical souvenir. Especially, since you have designed an album cover already.

I know. It's true. But I don't even have a printer right now. This is what I could make without breaking out the crayons. So I used the resources I had, which was my microphone and voice. Lots of people here are very visually skilled, I'm just not one of them.

Thanks for checking it out!
