The Callouses on Your Hands by N Mutans

July 21st, 2011 1:00 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Think of a physical mark on yourself that has a story behind it. Tell the story.

OR

Think of a physical mark on yourself, and invent a story story behind it. Tell the story.

Please, don't tell us which of these options you select.

These are all marks from the first week of 2011.

Why did it take so long for me to post this, even though I started on it when I'd only been playing for a few days? Well, it was going to be much more complicated, but I've wound up deciding that a simple little completion would fit best with the simple little idea behind it. If you'd like to know more about the backstory, you may message me. Though this is not an extravagant praxis, I did attempt to follow the instructions very precisely.

Stories accompany photos.

Sometimes, my cat is a little too playful, that's all. (Photo taken when marks were ten days old.)

The deepest of the scratches in the last photo has become a lasting scar. (Photo taken over six months later.)

I tripped and fell. A boulder turned out to be just where my upper chest came down, but on the way there, my shoulder discovered some blackberry brambles. (Photo taken when marks were four days old.)

This is my side, around the bottom of my ribcage. The same day as the last photo, I walked into the edge of a door. I'm just so clumsy! (Photo taken when marks were four days old.)

Man, I hope you followed the first part of the instructions and not the last.

I'm not buying the door or the cat. Fictitious?
