We reject the whole system of work and leisure, of production and consumption, to which life has been reduced by bureaucratic capitalism… The only real problem is how to live life in the full. Burn, Baby, Burn! … The basic demand is for… a new culture corresponding to human desires and not simply dissimulating and sublimating their frustration… What would a revolutionary society be like? An endless passion, an endless adventure, an endless banquet…

CGØ Potlatch, in honor of visiting dignitary: Myrna Minx of SLØ.
A) to redistribute wealth among the CGØ community,
B) to impress the SLØ emissary with the wealth of CGØ, and make her an offer she could not refuse.

The Potlatch began with a feast, enormous in size. It was attended by official CGØ members and non-players alike, amounting to well over 25 people.
Members of CGØ came forward to distribute a division of their personal wealth to the community. The more richly each member gave, the more status they would be awarded within CGØ
Dela Dejavoo: several sacks of treasures, a headdress, and a crown
zer0gee: a dozen pieces of unique Urban Archeology Jewelry
Inspector Hound: a copy of "Farthing" by Jo Walton
Julian Muffinbot: over a dozen Artist Trading Cards
Adar: a jar of awesome sauce from his local organic mushroom farm
Dax: (having not accumulated any wealth this era outside of schoolwork) 12 copies of a short essay entitled "Subversive Street Games"
Beetle Bomb: "King of Carrot Flowers" (Neutral Milk Hotel), performed on accordion
Terpsichore: "Ghost of Corporate Future" (Regina Spektor), performed on ukelele
Nern & Simon (non-players): two songs on banjo / ukelele
Fox Glove: 20's Charleston (dance lesson)
Amby D: piratey sea chanty, sung
Ryan (non-player): improvised dance

SLØ emmissary, Myrna Minx, was officially welcomed, and presented gifts of unparalleled generosity
A Player Portrait (Jefftown)
Donation-By-Other-Means book (Dela Dejavoo)
A miniature replica of the CGØ flag, for her to take back to Saint Louis (Dax)
The Key to the City (zer0gee)

This event took place in a private schoolyard in Wicker Park (they left the gate open... suckers). We began at 8PM, with the last of the attendees taking off shortly after 1AM.
notes:
- we would like to thank Mat Defiler for attending, and respect her choice to not be awarded points for this Praxis
- Non-Players who attended were given the option of enlist-or-die

Interesting article Dax. I like where that line of thought is going.
*sighs* I wish I could have been there, too : (
Looks like you guys had fun, though, and it sounds like it had quite a nice turnout. I'm glad that CGØ was able to welcome Myrna Minx so extravagantly :D
you guys rule.
best thing ever.
this is excellent.
way to be a community.
I think there are various definitions of "wealth" at play here. Auntie Matter seems to feel that the valid definition of "wealth" in the SF0 community is points, and they should be distributed to other teams. However, the majority of the potlatch participants were redistributing "wealth" in the form of art, song, food, and dance, amongst their fellow members of CG0. In a game like this, I don't think any one definition of wealth is any more valid than another.
Auntie Matter's criticism seems to imply not only that the only valid definition of wealth is points, but that the point (or one of the points) of the potlatch was to redistribute wealth to the entire SF0 community. This was actually never one of the potlatch's stated intentions. It was always about redistribution within/amongst CG0 (and of course to the visiting SL0 emissary).
Looks like great fun. Let me know if any of you will be dropping by Boston.
If it had not been for the all-too-important job hunt in today's evil, evil job market, I would have been in Boston a few weeks ago : (
Beautiful.
The gift of the city key, a tradition I am glad to see kept alive.
