To Hit A Moving Target by rongo rongo

INSTRUCTIONS: First, check this task's praxis.

1. Locate the most recent completion (careful, they're sorted by score, not date).
2. At the end of the most recent completion, you will find the description of a new task.
3. Complete that task, and submit the proof here.
4. If someone else submits a completion of the task before you, then you may not submit a completion of the same task. If you attempt to do so, your proof will be flagged out of existence by fellow players. You may, of course, include your disqualified proof as an addendum to a valid completion of a new task.

At the end of your proof, you must describe a new task. It should meet these requirements:

1. It can be completed in any geographical region, in 24 hours, for less than the cost of a sandwich.
2. It does not duplicate an existing (active or retired) SFZero task. Un-scored tasks are fair game.

Create a collage describing a journey, only using material obtained from one newspaper or magazine.
I get Archaeology magazine, but instead used Cosmo magazine to make a collage describing Easter Island's prehistoric journey from a culture focused on building large statues (moai) to the more recent birdman (tangata manu) cult. This involved a shift from a strictly hereditary system of sacred chiefs to a somewhat more open system where divine favor was proved through success in a difficult feat. I also think it's interesting that the art moved from human images made of stone (permanence through physical materials?) to representations of a human/bird spirit (permanence through transcendence?).

Eyes are a prominent feature of both Easter Island art and Cosmo magazine ads. Here, eyes are used as rocks that cover the surface of the island, and also as an egg held by a tangata manu. While Easter Island art used stone, the most plentiful material on the island, this collage uses a lot of hair textures, because hair is the most plentiful material from Cosmo.

Next task: Capture a moment in time. Hold it ransom.

Vote because I have a soft spot for projects that expose the similarities between two things that are (at least on the surface) very, very unalike. :)

I want to see that sentence in a scholarly article someday.

You get points and a hot dog.

'Cause this is teh awsomez!!! I was wondering it would be accomplished, but I never expected this. And to use Cosmo to tell the story of an ancient people makes it even more cool....

I like your interpretation of, "journey," Rongo Rongo. It sure is fun watching this task evolve.
