Fortune Not Cookie by Palindromedary

September 12th, 2009 11:41 PM / Location: 37.764222,-122.4027

INSTRUCTIONS: Install fortunes of your devising in permanent or non-permanent media in openable structures, such that passersby will come across them.

I am currently employed as a cashier at a supermarket.  I take advantage of this to tell jokes, trivia, and conundrums to people I've never met.  And, today, to hand out a few fortunes.  The most common purchased good in my store is basically a box that you put your own food in from our salad bar.  They are habitually taped to keep them from popping open, so I wrote fortunes on receipts that people didn't want and put them underneath the tape.  Plainly protruding from beneath the tape so that they would be noticed- but unnoticed initially as I rapidly placed their items in bags. Many fortunes were food related: "Sandwiches are an excellent medium for artistic expression." Many did not: "Pandas seldom rob banks; but are still a poor choice for security guards."  Total fortunes given out: 23.

A fortune that would later be taped to someone's take-out.
