The Highest Place by PDØ Hitman

March 23rd, 2011 11:22 AM / Location: 45.498689,-122.7077

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to the highest point of anything.

I was hired to stakeout a member of the local population and wanted to find the place where I could get the best view of the surrounding countryside. I determined that the highest point in Portland, Oregon, was at Council Crest Park.

Once I entered the park I found it ideal for my tasking as I could oversee Portland and it's surroundings. As this was just a recon mission, I wasn't worried about the clouds in the area.

But based on the placards on the walls I figured that on a clear day I could see everything needed to complete my assignment.

While I was up on the summit I found a Bench Marker representing the highest point on land in Portland.

I decided to set up my tripod and video camera so that you could see the view (though overcast) from the summit and provide proof that I was actually there.

For those of you in PDX I recommend going up there. When you stand on the bench marker and speak it is like being in a nice auditorium with good acoustics.

And for those of you that are really adventurous you can always climb up this:

Climbing up a radio tower is actually the only way to get higher than that within the Portland metro area without being in some sort of flying apparatus.

There is a locked gate at the bottom to get access to the ladder. Next time up I may have to add a "Useful Rope."
