The Highest Place by Teeth Beetles

January 9th, 2009 5:49 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to the highest point of anything.

I live in San Francisco, and until I signed up for this task, I was completely unaware of what the highest point in the entire city of San Francisco was.

Much to my surprise, it is Mount Davidson, the big mountain I live at the foot of, at 925 feet.

I decided to trek from the Pacific Ocean at Ocean Beach to to summit of Mount Davidson.

It is grueling...

According to the sign, I am now somewhere in the Marin Headlands.

But finally, success.

This giant freaking cross used to be owned by the city, but then was later sold off to some Armenian heritage group, and re-Christened as a memorial to the Armenian Genocide. There was a plaque commemorating the genocide, but it went missing. Another plaque was placed on the structure earlier last year. I think the original plaque was originally on the cross itself, but the new plaque is on a platform at the base. Didn't go up to it; too muddy. Besides, I felt I was going to get jumped because of all the brush around.

Cookie wants that sign with the pretty wave. How long have those existed?!
