Make it Soft by Skitz Ø

October 6th, 2009 1:09 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make something soft.

When I saw this task I reminisced back to my days in Textiles Class, sewing and knitting and making bits of cloth into something semi-recognizable. My pack rat instincts had caused me to hoard some of the supplies that were provided and keep them. I pulled out some light blue felt, thread, and needles and my sharpies.

I cut up some cardboard and made a stencil for the two pieces of the body.

I sewed them together and turned it inside out so that it was ready for stuffing.

I made a set of arms the same way.

For stuffing I gave one of my old stuffed animals a lobotomy. It was not pretty.

I stuffed the arms and torso and put it all together.

The finished product I gave the name “Rather Plain”

I wasn’t sure where to go next with features so I decided to let fate decide. I took one of my sharpies and wrote a note.

I addressed it to “You” and placed it in Clifton, a more outgoing neighborhood of Cincinnati where I was sure he could find a good home easiest. I forgot my camera while putting him in place though, silly me. I watched him for a little while but no one seemed to notice. I left him alone in a flower pot at a corner and started to drive home. As I passed I noticed an older gentleman looking at little Rather Plain, but he left Rather in his pot and went on his way alone. I hope rather finds a home soon because the rain clouds are gathering and I’m pretty sure he isn’t very good with water.

I like this a lot, but what exactly were you making soft? Points for cuteness and leaving him in public, though!

Hopefully I made someone's heart a little softer and Rather Plain was pretty soft himself. Maybe I misread the task. If so, apologies abound.

No apologies necessary. I thought from previous praxis that the task was to take something hard and make it softer but the description is totally up to interpretation. Rather Plain is adorable :D

Like unto Athena springing out of Zeus' head. +2

Something very existential about making a new being out of the insides of the head of another.

nice addition to the task, leaving it for someone else to enjoy :)
