100 words by space bug

June 13th, 2006 9:48 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Cut 100 individual words out of different newspapers and magazines or whatever print source you like. Assemble them into some sort of story or poem or such. Try to choose words that call out to you and try not to plan out what your story will be ahead of time. Create a little book for you to paste your story words into.

This task was harder than I imagined it would be. I didn't allow myself very many articles to work with, so it came out as more abstract epithets than much of a cohesive narrative. Also, to avoid myself smooshing around different words for ever and a day, I decided I just needed to stop thinking so hard about it and start gluing. This created kind of an interesting effect as I eventually had fewer and fewer words to work with, so it kind of becomes more abstract as it goes along. But, some things that are very revealing about me came out, as well a nice dig on all you west coasters just for fun. Book constructed of postal paper, cardboard, and twine.

I'm excited to this one too. But there's a lot to live up to now...
