ok well i dont know if i'm thinking of the same thing- but if the canvases were just pieces of cloth, then you put the pieces of wood together (if you can) and then stretch the canvas over the frame the wood creates. staple it, then put this white-paint stuff as base (if you're making an oil painting, which you're not) and dry it out.
