in chicago this task could be LONG. all the bus route numbers near where i live are things like 49, 50, 78, 80, 92, 141... i suppose half the battle would be planning a route that connects up but doesn't take days to complete.
oh, wait, it would be awesome if it took days to complete. that's a task - spend a weekend living on public transportation.
i like things that require investment. and i would love to see people from all over do this task.
yeah. the trick doing this in chicago would be... suppose i randomly chose the numbers 9, and 72 (ashland and north ave). so i get on the ashland bus from where i live, but it takes way less than 9 minutes to get to north, so when i get off 9 minutes later, do i have to walk back to north ave so i can spend 72 minutes on that bus?
or do i have to very carefully make sure to get on the ashland bus somewhere it would take me 9 minutes exactly to get to north ave?
I have no idea how I'd do this in DC there are basically the big numbers 54, 66, 70 that all run more or less parallel to each other (actually some of these meet up in silver spring or takoma park and elsewhere) and then there are a TON of bus lines like L4, S2, D4, etc.
i think the letters should be accounted for! go... left for four blocks/minutes, then straight for two blocks/minutes, then.... down? for four, well, you get the idea. it would all have to be relative to where you started from, i guess.
i don't know exactly how best to interpret that so it can work - it might be too crazy to function - but it would be interesting to attempt.
