Any bay area players up for a collaboration?
posted by Loki on August 13th, 2007 8:00 PM

Park(ing) Day is Sept 21.

I was thinking of organizing a park this year anyway. Might as well get some free SF0 points and use the game to find some collaborators.

Was planning on something in the east bay, since there are sure to be several in SF. But, I'm open to going further afield to a place where such things happen less often.

I like it, Loki. If you wanna do this in the Bay Area, add me to your list.

Ditto on that Loki, I'm east bay, where exactly are you looking at doing this?

I'm glad someone brought this up again. I'd really like to do this - and since it's already Tuesday, it'll be pleasantly guerrilla-style. I really think this should be in SF, though. The current list of parks has some pretty cute ideas mixed in with the inevitable business tie-ins ("do pilates - IN A PARKING SPACE!") and architects tripping over each others' green-ness. Honestly, I wish the the exercise bike space had been my idea. Anyway, some ideas that'd been thrown around for a SFZero-produced park:

- An office space (desks, plastic plants)
- A farmer's market (refuge of the lazy urban planner)
- A (mini) golf course (refuge of the lazy - or just successful - urban developer)
- A tiny doorhenge
- A park on top of some scaffolding - ideally 3 stories high (in honour of what appears to be our next corporate greenspace).

Any takers? Take a look at the map. As luck would have it, my very own Lower Haight is looks to be up for grabs, still...

If this is going on in the AM on Friday then I'm totally down...But I'm leaving at 5 for Santa Barbara...

I like the mini golf course...also the farmer's market idea would be pretty interesting...

what about a mini class room...anyone have a black board?

also, slightly gross..but we could have a picnic...I definitely wouldn't do that in my hood though

How would you do a mini door henge??

(no subject)
posted by YellowBear on September 18th, 2007 11:27 AM

Could this possibly one finally be my first chance to 'call in tasking' from work? I've always wanted to do that.

Minigolf is inherently funny. Doorhenge is inherently full of win and awesome.

We don't want to join the masses and park downtown?

(no subject)
posted by Malaysian Eddy on September 18th, 2007 12:42 PM

Yeah I think downtown or SF in general would be more fun... But I would still be down for the E.B.

YB...calling out tasking is the best.....DO IT!!!

posted by Sean Mahan on September 18th, 2007 1:38 PM

I'm pretty sure we have a club or two (not sure if one's a putter) and a few golf balls around my apartment. Only problem with minigolf is snagging some fake grass - I assume whatever easily/cheaply available green rugs the city has to offer have been snatched up. Building obstacles would be pretty fun, though. We'd need some kind of border or low fence to keep errant puts out of the street or gutter.

No one likes the office idea? How about a napping area? Petting zoo? PETTING ZOO?

I mean, we have access to a chicken, a ferret, presumably at least one dog and one cat... The real clincher would be getting our hands on a pig, goat, sheep, emu, or something like that.

a.) put our space near the bus stop rave
b.) formal dining with crystal wine glasses and white table clothes and tuxes and fancy dresses and rhinestones a la Suicide Club Golden Gate Bridge dining mob...

I have a very fancy dress that needs to be duly admired by the public...also, I found a rhinestone cigarette holder which I would purchase for such an occasion! Yay!

Fun and easyish...

If each person brought just a couple of things, the burden wouldn't be too much on anyone. The hardest part would be the table and chairs.
List of things we might want:

* wine glasses (I'll get these)
* something to put in them (two buck chuck in public? jd? grape juice? tell me what and i'll bring it)
* decanter (i'll search for one)
* table
* chairs
* table cloth
* vase of flowers
* plates
* silverware (i've got this covered)
* cloth napkins
* salad (I can do this one)
* side dish (I nominate Scarlett)
* main course
* dessert (i insist upon Scarlett, mmmm...)
* bread rolls
* butter pats
* salt and pepper shaker
* dressing
* dressing tourines

Anyone know how we can get someone to serenade us with violin music and servers? :)

Are you guys into it?

Wow.

I sent 'round an email to collaborators formally throwing in the towel as organizer of this one a few weeks back. (On the grounds that I was going to be way too busy to organize anything cool, and I've got family in town through early friday morning.)

But, if it happens anyway, that would be awesome. I'll certainly be there and do my fair share of the day-of work.

The formal dining idea certainly sounds easy to do, and a suicide club homage is nifty. I can put together a convincing waiter costume.

I spent a few minutes pricing fake turf, and getting the stuff new is expensive - of order a hundred dollars for a 10x20 chunk everywhere I looked. I tried for some craig's list free astroturf that came up a couple weeks ago, but someone beat me to it. Makes the golf thing tough to do. (Clubs are $3/each at thrift town, so turf is the real barrier.)

i have a folding card table (it will need a table cloth) and some plastic chairs (the ones used in past bonfires)

does it have to happen this friday?
if so, please don't do it right next to the bus stop.

posted by Bex. on September 18th, 2007 3:37 PM

Kay, not near the rave. But downtown, maybe near New Montgomery and Mission/Market? so that people who'll be nearby could attend.
What time? 1pm? That'll let us get set up, have a good time, take down, go home, nap, and come back out refreshed for the rave...

near the rave is fine. awesome actually. i just meant not in the street section of the bus stop, ie exactly in front of the 'rave'

Did someone hyperlink me?
After public protest I felt a little.... overwhelmed(inside SFØ and out) so... I was going to stay out of this and wait to get to tasking until my life is back in order, but I mean now…
I am getting hyperlinked and shit!
But I do not know there have been a lot of weird vibes around SFØ lately

If nobody's got an opinion, i'm gonna start layin' down rules:
This Friday, arrive at 12 noon to set up. Dining starts at 1.
We've got table and chairs, now we need a way to transport them from lowteck's place. Volunteers?
We've got silverware, a salad dressing tourine, wine glasses.
Now we need volunteers to bring bread, food, plates, table cloth, etc.
I'm going to submit it as an event, but i'll change it if anyone has any beef...

We'll need a car with which to save a space, and a car to move things. I can book a city car share car for either one. I can also bake a mean dessert.

Table cloth, anyone? Candlesticks (presumably candles would blow out, though)? Decor, perhaps? Any chance someone has a wheeling serving tray (or something reasonably like one)? Or better yet, can we set up a long table?

posted by Malaysian Eddy on September 19th, 2007 9:37 AM

Alright, provided that I get the bulk of my reading and paper writing done before friday I can definitely free up some time for SFØ. I'm gonna pick up my rental car in the AM so I can offer up my driving services as well as a white waiter jacket that I can take from work...but you must bring your own bow tie. I can also take some wine glasses if those are needed as well. And whatever else ya need...let me know...I think I have a unopened table cloth with napkins hiding somewhere....

I will let you know on the status of SFØ vs. homework

posted by Blue on September 20th, 2007 6:47 PM

hammerfight25263.jpgBut more over what I meant is that what Park(ing) day is doing is bringing awareness to people of the need for more public spaces for people to interact… namely parks(hence the play on words and parenthesis). I'm not saying this has to be on que with that message… simply that if this is going to coincide with Park(ing) day simply because people are doing weird stuff with parking spaces that day then the people involved should at least be conscious of the other larger message going on that day and any divergence there might be… or they may they be die and come back as Frank Chu.

So I guess what I am asking is… is this an invitation only dinner or will the public be invited to join, and will there be xtra dinner coats so the do not feel under dressed?

And really who wants to hold their own family hostage? Would Chu?

Does anyone get that reference? Basically what I mean is that Frank Chu finds protests and then stands as close to the press as he can… which can sometimes lead to the media confusing the actual protest with Chu's daily protest and people trying to descredit the protesters by protesting Chu. Is this tracking?

I think space at the table will be limited to us and ours. Only so many chairs and plates and etc. Especially since Scarlett and i are the only ones who've offered to bring food so far.
HINT HINT!!!

However, I do see this as a great opportunity to prosletize SFØ in our finery. Does that count as interacting?
