Indeed it was. But doing it in the real world is more SF0esque.
They're funny, but they are also a reminder that we can be way more awesome.
No, I think they might be TOO awesome.
I wanna see completions that use moxy rather than computer photoshopping skills. I want this task to be done guerilla style. The replacing of the images in those examples is weak. I think the whole meaning should be understood by just changing ONE letter. One letter and nothing else.
They're awesome for different reasons from what we'll do. They involved people having an awful lot more creative control than you're likely to actually get in the real world - so they produced some incredibly funny results we won't likely see duplicated here.
But they're still less awesome in that quintessentially sf0 way than doing a guerilla modification to urban signage. Action in the real world trumps action over the tubes any day.
You mean it wasn't inspired by this?
the town of Agra, Kansas gained a fair amount of notoriety when someone added "VI" to their water tower... this was a couple years ago, and I can't find a picture, but a search for "agra kansas water tower" nets some results. (leave the "viagra" part out unless you want a million spammer sites.)
The only really funny one was AFK JFK
However, this would be a fun task.
and it's really S.N.I.D.E.
am i going to get flagged if i change two letters?
I will flag you myself. Stick to the letter of the task.
Combinatorically speaking, a second letter allows a great deal more options... and the point of the task is to do a good job despite the minimalist nature of what you can do.
So I figure if you change two letters you'd better make it well more than twice as impressive to compensate.
or somehow change 2 letters so that only 1 letter is missing....as quoted somewhere, "Brilliant SFZero players will find a way to do your London task in Chicago"
anything is possible...if you figure it out.
...or submit a new task that is 2 letters off...
I have an idear. A wonderful, awful, B-I-G idear. I know I is a new player & I will gladly prove my guerilla tasking chops first. But oh oh oh I has an idear. Collaborators? How to start a private conversation about this? Yah, 15 points, BFD, but I don't think I care.
As Lincoln said, "I wanna see completions that use moxy rather than computer photoshopping skills. I want this task to be done guerilla style."
Are there Billboard Liberation Fronters among us?
One way to create a private conversation would be to make a private event. Just make an event and then uncheck the checkbox next to the word "Public." Invite anyone who you want to be a part of it. Seems like a better way to have a conversation than actually within a praxis to me.
You can do the same thing within a team. Set it up so that it's not only invitation-only, but with private discourse as well.
Yeah. Hell, open-enrollment plus private discourse lets you keep people from noticing unless they choose to involve themselves at least long enough to spy; this works pretty well for some teams, such as 0UT, but isn't what most teams need and thus isn't how most are done.
But either way you all then carry a badge indicating involvement in the conversation, which is annoying if you want its existence or membership to be a surprise when unveiled.

The tradition goes far back on this one. Alas Cookie cannot take credit, but he wanted to share it with you all!

this task was a lot of fun. once we started we couldn't stop. there's still plenty more to come, but we've spent enough time on this. done for now. PAGE --> RAGE ONE WAY --> ONE LAY for some reason i had a one way sign lying arou...

What I like about this is that it is almost a hidden message; the person in the cubicle won't be able to see it. It suggests that maybe there's more than one reason why toilets are private space. It is also my first task. So be nice. The doing was s...

All is not well in the picturesqe thoroughfare at the heart of Manchester's gay village, Canal Street. To quote the font of all knowledge. "Canal Street's portrayal on several popular television programmes, the opening of a number of chain bars, and ...

When this task went up I spent several days looking at signage and mentally changing letters to see if I could come up with something that both made sense and was amusing. I came up with a good one for a Dental Office, but I couldn't find a reachable...

Awww! LOL. I am not so sure about improving the message! My human minions newly bred sister would hang her if she knew I gave you too many cookies for this, but well done. You made Cookie laugh.

I did not use this task for good, but for evil. These changes will leave frustration, despair or at least sad confusion in their wake. It's just been that kinda week.

Project Hi :) This is the standard German bus stop sign. It is... somewhat boring. This is its new design: And this is how it's done: (had so much fun) The police station should of course not be excluded: And.. after doing quite a lot o...

I think the first letter to be dropped was one in the description of the task: "Find A sign"?! Screw that. We equiped ourselves with masking tape, eletric tape, scissors and warm clothes before we headed out on our bikes for some sign-vand...
