So, my sister-in-law is obsessed with babies and children. She is also vegan. I was pretty sure that anything combining these two would catch her interest, so I decided to send her a spam email from the Super Vegan Baby Extravaganza. She usually likes bright rainbow colors so I went with that color scheme. The fact that it looked atrocious just made it better. I included an address for somewhere in Portland, Oregon because she's moving there next week. The email went sent from superveganbabyextravaganza@gmail.com. About 6 hours later a received a reply. It seems as though she might have been as worried about how this company got her email as she was interested in the products.

Vote especially because my first thought was 'babies aren't vegan at all, in fact that's cannibalism!' But definitely vote because you micro-targeted so well you freaked out your target.

Impressive! I didn't think anyone replied to spam anymore, unless they were corresponding with a spammer.

you made me secretly hope this store exists so i can heckle from the sidewalk.

but... too bad you didn't keep up the ruse and see what kind of products she'd like to find.

Random news story: A baby died of malnutrition because their parents made it vegan.

Great completion though!

More specifically, because they gave it SOY MILK (which doesn't contain any of the nutrients babies need) instead of breast-feeding it like any logical (?) pair of vegan parents would.

It's been a while since I read the story... so don't quote me on that. But I think that's how it happened.

what IS it with the thrice damned casualness around here anyway?

Okay obviously that's a joke but just as obviously breastfeeding isn't cannibalism-- I'd say symbiosis is a more accurate description.

I probably don't need to stick up for them because they can handle it themselves, but several of our friends are perfectly good and sane human beings who are vegan. I'm sure every one of them could tell you exactly what DunkleVark said: vegan parents would breastfeed; and the baby soy milk people may call themselves vegan, but what they really are is monumental idiots. "No animal products Evar" is a brute simplification of vegan principles that any supposedly wiser heads (some of our commentators right here, yes?) should be able to ascertain.

I've had conversations with my sister-in-law about this subject and she definitely considers breast milk to be vegan. It is an animal product, but it is a product given willingly by a human to another human. It is produced for the sole purpose of feeding babies. Cow's milk on the other hand is being produced to feed baby cows and is then taken from the cow to feed humans in a manner that often harmful to the cow, the environment, etc. You could define veganism to not include breast feeding but that would be missing the point.

Vote for making me laugh, and also for poking lighthearted fun at folks who get obsessed with babies. Honestly, they probably SHOULD be obsessed with babies when they have little ones, but sometimes I just can't match their enthusiasm, y'know? Anyway, thanks for cheering me up!

Awesome task.
I don't think anyone said breastfeeding was cannibalism. I took the comment to be in reference to eating the baby, "babies aren't vegan at all, in fact that's cannibalism!". And it wouldn't be true symbiosis, as that requires separate species, unless you are using the term colloquially.

As for breastfeeding, I'd like to remind folks that for any number of reasons SOME MOTHERS AND BABIES CANNOT BREASTFEED. This does not make them idiots. It puts them in a very difficult position, having to choose between a food source they consider cruel, or choosing a less effective alternative (there do seem to be plenty of good, healthy soy alternatives, however).

As for the family whose child died, I've not read the article so my only judgement on them would be wondering why they a)didn't have more information as it seems quite abundant (at least on the net) and b)why a doctor didn't see the child earlier and intervene.

I just think casually calling an entire group idiots due to a question that is mostly hypothetical (and without doing the research to back it up) isn't.. well... fair.

Super vegan babies are delicious. They're the only kind I can eat.
