Art Burglar by Ayma Mack, Mr. O.

May 27th, 2008 5:22 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Steal something physical from another player. Create a piece of art using this object. Be very careful when choosing said object. Something as mundane a newspaper or an old box may have personal value to its owner.

Recently, a very good friend of mine Meredithian had gone out of town for the weekend. I was entrusted with the noble responsibility of feeding her cats and checking up on her apartment. I couldn't help but think there was potential for some disruption, as I had the opportunity and permission to enter into her apartment without her presence. With some inspiration from some previous tasks, I decided my best route would be to burgle some Legos used in this task, and create some Lego art of my own.

I was a little worried about the quantity of Legos, so unfortunately I had to burgle and dismantle some leftover fractals. But don't worry, Meredithian, think of it less of a death and more of a reincarnation.

There was some deliberation about what kind of image or sculpture I would recreate with these Legos. I decided that since they were her Legos, I would make Meredithia my subject. After searching through my own collection of photos as well as pictures online, the choice was clear. How could I NOT choose a picture of her in her skivvies when they were so readily available: Not-The-Intended-Use

I enlisted the help of Ayma Mack, and while I was invading Meredithian's living space, he was busy on his computer editing images for us to use as a guideline.

We did run into a little trouble as we started to create the image. It turns out I did not steal enough Legos, so we had to shrink the image down a bit. Working together, it did not take us long to reach the finished product, which was, I think, nothing short of divine.

I know I was supposed to burgle the art supplies, but I don't intend to keep the Legos. I wonder when she'll notice...

Nice - I never would have thought to connect the Lego task and the dancing task.

I'm beginning to understand why there was a sudden need to reach her in order to find your camera... ha!

Um... seriously? The idea, the methods, and the end result are all entirely made of wonderful. Gold star (and a heartfelt vote) for you!

i have to admit that sometimes of late, when i'm having a crap day, i come look at this praxis and think "someone cared about me enough to make a lego mosaic of me... in my underwear... with my own legos...." and it makes me smile.
