INSTRUCTIONS: The first task reads: "Take a picture of yourself. " This is the only time a sous rature gesture will be made, so let us remind you: you may be your character, but your character need not be you.

At first I thought I would use an old picture. I wasn't sure if that would be allowed, and it sounded lazy and boring to me anyway. I also tried to find what sous rature meant, so I could theme my picture around it. I have never tried to do a thing like that before. Usually, I would test some new photographic technique, and if that were the case, this would be made with just a ringlight.

So my ideas have undergone a few revisions to this point. My new plan is to use several mirrors, so that it is not obvious which one is me, like a hall of mirrors. I saw what might have been a good photo earlier today, when a sliver of my face was caught in a rear view mirror, a piece of a girl driving the car, and a bit of an old instructor on the right. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera. So I have decided on this new plan.

It was harder than it sounded.

Also, someone seems to have done this already. Damnit.

New for the Everyday Life era. The picture I will offer when elected as Communist Dictator of some small country, that will probably get kicked out of the U.N.

My final decision.

Originality +2

I definitely know the feeling of "Ack! They did what I was going to do!"

Sadly, my memory is not good enough to find it, but somewhere in this site, there is a great set of comments about how we shouldn't worry too much when someone else has the same idea we do. Part of creation is, in fact, blatant thievery of other ideas and making them our own. You know,"homage" or "inspiration". ;) But really, I think that having different approaches to the same idea, or taking one idea and making something more of it, is a neat way to explore new things.

Anyway, nice implementation of the idea--it does feel like there's more than one person in that photo.

Thank you. I suppose that our ideas all come from somewhere, even though I have no idea where. When I look at other people's pictures, and drawings, and words and things, I get inspired, but when I'm left to my own ideas and become overly cerebral, inspiration dies.

I'm totally cool with the idea of having stolen everyone else's ideas.
