INSTRUCTIONS: Don't go to work. Don't go to school.

I'll describe the tasking part of the day in separate praxis, but suffice to say that I haven't finished up all the tasks I was working on from Insatiability. For this praxis, I'll concentrate on the mundane and Everyday Life aspects of September 21, 2008.

(0) Getting up. This can be tricky sometimes, but is easier on days that I don't go to work or school. I have this recurring mild nightmare where I wake up and get ready to go, but minor mishaps ensue, such as the shampoo not sudsing up properly in the shower. But today, all was well.

(1) Clothes. I don't pay very much attention to fashion, but I do try to avoid being too cold. I got faked out and wore more layers than necessary for this day, but it was ok. I am a big fan of polar fleece as lightweight layers of insulating clothing.

(2) Feeding. When I'm not away from home, I feed our two rabbits, Tubbs and Sophie. This day, they got carrot greens and some carrot, timothy hay, and timothy pellets. I also patted the bunnies after feeding them.

(3) Sneezing. I'm a bit allergic to various things, like rabbits. I sneeze more than the average person. Some people have remarked that my sneezing is somewhat distinctive, but it's just everyday for me.

(4) Eating. Generally, I eat every day. Eating is a big hobby in my family. Bunny Dragon, Listener, and a few of our friends got together for brunch. I also had some cheese beforehand, to prevent getting cranky waiting for a table.

(5) Sounds. Brunch was at a restaurant that has live jazz. It was, as usual, too loud. I find that most entertainment (movies, music) is louder than I prefer. That's one of the many great things about the game of SF0---it's rarely too loud.

(6) Weather. The weather was beautiful. A clear and cool autumn day with fluffy white clouds and blue sky.

(7) Friends. After brunch, we hung out in Davis Square. One of our friends had invited people to show up and socialize there, so throughout the afternoon, people we knew were showing up to sit around and chat.

[Tasking interlude 1]

(8) Nature and wildlife. Sitting in Davis Square, we noticed how the pigeons had some favorite branches. We didn't sit under those branches.

(9) Missed connections. Something that characterizes social groups is the length of their planning horizon. Usually, I find that the people I know plan social activities with a few days notice at the most. For example, brunch was only planned the night before. So it's not unreasonable to call someone to see if they are free for dinner that same day. However, both people Bunny Dragon called on Sunday were already busy (though I did end up seeing them on Monday).

(10) Eating (ethnic). Bunny Dragon and I got Chinese take-out at the Chinese place nearest our house. Possibly because I grew up with this kind of food, I never get tired of it.

(11) Reading. I caught up on newspapers that I'd missed while out of town last week. Yep, I still read physical newspapers. I also read a small book about petroglyphs and other aspects of Orongo on Easter Island. And, I read the latest Cosmo magazine.

[Tasking interlude 2]

(12) Cleaning. Actually, cleaning is not an everyday activity for me. I tend to be untidy, and Bunny Dragon does too. We are currently avoiding severe ickiness by having professional cleaners visit once a month. This at least gets us to clear up before they come, and then they get the floors, bathrooms, and kitchen into decent shape. I was a bit resistant to having cleaners, because it seemed too much like something only yuppies do. But then a bunch of people we knew were doing it, so I guess nerds do it too. Which made it more okay.

(13) Sleeping. I really like down comforters and pillows. Even without air conditioning, we use a down comforter most of the summer. Now it's almost time to get out the cold weather comforter. I'm more of a fan of mattresses than futons and I prefer that stuffed animals sleep in the laundry basket.

I realize that some people have achieved the blessed state of incorporating tasking into their everyday life. I'm not quite there yet, but SF0 has had significant effects on my personality and general outlook. Looking forward to living and playing this new era with all of you.

Although I had a wonderful, everyday life day on September 21, 2008, I did not take any pictures of the everyday (non-tasking) aspects. But perhaps being un-photographed is itself an essential characteristic of my everyday life.

Agreed. What's with that?

Though, at least around here, SF0 can at times be rather loud as well. (I bring along a pair of earplugs when tasking.)

Am not sure whether to try and pin it on aging baby boomers with hearing damage from rock and roll, or generation x'ers who need things to be loud so they can hear them over the iPods they are always wearing :)

I'm at least as old as you old fogies and I find that I like things appropriately loud. Nothing is too loud except for commercial breaks during late night television, but I don't really watch television anymore, so I'm usually fine.

Goodluck with the incorporation into everyday life... It's hard.
