Potted Plant Distribution by Youth
February 28th, 2009 9:59 PM
hi everyone! for my first task i picked potted plant distribution (no pun intended).
first i prepared the vessel...a smucker's jelly jar dolled up with a little blackboard surface spray paint.

i filled it with some good soil from my backyard and popped the lid on (to make it portable!)

finding colorful chalk was harder than you might think. even walgreen's didn't have it, but fortunately, the hardware store did.
i walked around with my jar of dirt looking for a good plant to pot. i wanted to rescue something from the street because the dirt in the city tree "planters" always looks dry and barren and filled with trash.
this one looked good! i used a shard of glass that was hidden in the dirt to dig up the roots.

once it was securely in the jar, i went looking for a place to install it.

i considered a restaurant, an atm, and even the dmv, but in the end, i decided to take it to a thrift store. it definitely needed some sprucing up, and i figured it would be good because a) it wasn't likely to be removed immediately and b) with thoughtful placement it would pleasantly surprise shoppers over and over again.

i decorated the jar with some graphic instructions and information about the plant's origins and nestled two pieces of my chalk in the dirt so others could change it up as necessary. then i gave it a new home in the mug section (right in front of a big window).

the plant wilted a little bit during the transport, but i'm hoping it will make a comeback once it gets some good sunshine tomorrow!

Rather exciting potted plant preparations you have there, and quite appropriate for your location. What did you write on the back, vertically? "From the street" and "LT-BTERATRO"?

Very good, I'm a big fan of the chalkboard spray paint idea.
vote for chalkboard paint!
