Art Unseen by Poisøn Lake

INSTRUCTIONS: Select a piece of artwork. Study the art for however long you like. Then reproduce the art while wearing a blindfold.

Publicly display your work.

For this task, I decided to copy Magritte's The Son of Man:

Because blindfolded painting seems like an especially messy prospect, I used pastels. I arranged them by color around my sketchbook, so I'd have a better chance at accuracy. I thought that I might be able to feel the marks on the page to keep everything lined up, but that was only semi-effective. My color sorting system worked pretty well & most of my copy is appropriately colored, though I probably should have chosen a lighter blue for the sky.
After my sketch was finished, I posted it on a phone booth in downtown Portland, where it will either be much admired or confused with the visual ramblings of a homeless 5 year old.
