Reverse Shoplifting by Poisøn Lake, Juxtapolemic
March 7th, 2009 1:56 PMI needed Zombie History Month greeting cards to distribute, as promised in the informational zombie history pamphlets I'd already passed out, by way of the zombie history information centers.
Step 1: Production
Unsatisfied by the available zombie clip art, I was prompted by my partner in life & tasking to use my own modest powers of illustration. So, I did a quick line drawing, scanned it & added some color & text.
I happened to have a "greeting card making kit" which consisted of perforated card stock, envelopes, & some less than helpful directions. I used my amazing powers of cognition to figure out that whole printing-on-both-sides-of-the-page-and-making-sure-everything-goes-in-the-correct-direction thing.
Step 2: Making it Purchasable
In preparation for the task I'd purchased a .99 cent card. I scanned it, cropped down to the barcode & printed some stickers.
Step 2.5: Assembly
Some folding & stickering took place.
Step 3: The Drop(s)
For this part, I enlisted the help of my Lovely Assistant. We meandered to the first location & amused each other by opening various musical cards & sharing feelings of repulsion, disgust, & horror at the dissident & ghastly tones that emerged. He blocked the cashiers' view of me while I made the drop & documented. The proceedings at the second location (which by the way, belonged to the same chain as both the store that the barcodeclonecard was bought from & the one that the first cards were dropped in) were much the same.
There's a bit more detail included with the images.
zombie history greeting cards

I made an edition of 14, planning to shop drop some & send others in celebration of Zombie Appreciation and Remembrance Day (march 15th).
zombie girl in sketch form.

First I had an idea (there's no picture for that part). Then I drew a picture. It's a little hard to tell, but she's licking her eyeball.

I scanned zombie girl, filled in a few areas in paint & added text to finish up the front of the card.
back & front

Zombie History Month is sponsored by the Society for the Restoration of Zombie History, so their seal was included on the back. If you're interested in joining & spreading Zombie History Month, feel free to send a message of inquiry to you local SRZH representative.
greeting card insides

the text results from the perfect combination of intentional cheesiness & my being too lazy to think of anything else.
cards in place store 1

they're a little hard to see, but pretty much in the center of the picture, above the black & white one with speech bubbles.
carsd in place store 2

these ones were placed to counteract the pinknfuzzyness of the surrounding area.

there are definite plans to return & perhaps to restock.
That seal alone is brilliant, the whole mission is favorited. Empty votepockets, sorry.
