Natural -> Artificial by Darkaardvark

February 1st, 2008 9:33 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create an artificial version of a natural product.

The Poe Toaster

Natural (biological) version: Poe, Toasted

Mysteriously, places a bottle of wine or other spirits and a rose on Poe's grave each year on Poe's birthday. Identity unknown, though some have come forward claiming to be the Poe Toaster.

Artificial (mechanical) version:

Mysteriously, toasts a piece of bread or other carbohydrate product in the toaster each year on the Earl of Sandwich's birthday. Origin unknown, though some toaster companies have claimed credit for the Poe Toaster.

I was going to sell the toast to an internet-casino on eBay, but it looked delicious and so I ate it instead. If, however, the Poe Toaster decides to pop out a Virgin Mary, it may be sold.

But by who?

The Poe Toaster?

The Poe Toaster?

We may never know.

The Poe Toaster?

The Poe Toaster?

So he claims.

Hmmm. Mysterious.

Quoth the Raven

Nevertoast.

Similarities

Similarities

Okay, this is a crow, but it's in the pose that the toast reminds me of. I couldn't find a raven in that pose, but the toast is clearly a raven.

Ah, but does its toast in any way resemble a writing desk?

My favorite answer to that riddle:

'Because they both ought to be made to shut up'

That is to say, for the desk, fold up, at the risk of stating the obvious

I've always favored "Because they are both NEVAR put the wrong way forwards."

Which I like primarily because trying to apply it to the writing desk makes no sense whatsoever.

I've always wanted to toast at Poe's.
And where'd you get that awesome pull-out toaster? I've never seen a drawer toaster before. Somehow it seemed particularly fitting... like you'd only pull it out on a special occasion like the Earl of Sandwich's birthday, anyway.

Heh. I actually laughed out loud.

Looks like we're going to need the artificial one.

That's really sad. That seems symbolic of the death of civility, or something. Sad sad sad.
