It's Good To Sit On The Floor Here by GYØ Daryl, Adam, Tøm

INSTRUCTIONS: It's good to sit on the floor here.

A Geographical Exploration of Pedestrian Areas in Great Yarmouth

A GYZero Completion

It's good to sit on the floor here; but where? We decided it's good to sit on the floor somewhere empty, somewhere public, somewhere interesting and somewhere we knew. Thus came the idea to find places to sit around Great Yarmouth, our home town. Furthermore we would find places in public so we decided on pedestrian areas or streets, we also decided we should do it late at night, well to be honest, because we didn't want to be majorly embarrassed.

Planning was fairly simple as earlier today the three of us were in town completing bits of tasks (to be revealed). We decided Saturday would be best as I (Adam) was in Norwich yesterday at a gig and any other day we have school/college so we wouldn't be let out late. I convened with Tom at about 7:30 at Blackfriars and we made our way into town to meet Daryl in his natural habitat of McDonalds. On the way there we begun our task with photos underneath Wellington Arch, in alleyways, on Monopoly Square (Bath Hill).

After we met Daryl and had an altercation with some chav-types in McDonalds about my sexuality and name we made our way out of the town centre and towards Sainsburys where we would find a car park. Car parks are great places at this time of night as they are nearly totally empty, huge expanses of concrete and also make for good photographs for Tom and Daryl's college portfolios. We were surprised to find the store still open by now so we decided to move into the store and bought some crisps. We also tried out sitting on the floor in the aisles but we decided it wasn't good to sit on the floor here as the staff thought we were mental patients (and so did the customers).

We proceeded to the graveyard of St Nicholas Church which was certainly not a good place to sit as it was quite frightening and full of undesirables. Some dead, some alive, some half-way in between. So we did actually find a very good place to sit in Beach Coach Station, it did used to be a railway station and as part of the public area there are some preserved rails which were interesting, public and empty. We then proceeded onto the building which smelt of urine but made for some fairly interesting photographs.

Tom and I decided that the middle of Euston Road was not a good place to sit and this was compounded by two elderly women coming out of a pub who (helpfully) told us that we shouldn't sit in the middle of a road. Thanks. The bowling green was bad too as the area was swarming with police due to the Saturday night disturbances, it didn't photograph well either. However, the beach and pier were next and these were quite nice, the pier was quiet but cold and the beach was, well, sandy. Our final stop was Regent Road which was full of drunk teenagers who wanted to know what we were doing and clearly thought we were weird. Certainly a bad place to sit.

Our final conclusion? Its not good to sit on the floor anywhere really, at least not unless there is a bench.

i like the regent road photo. i also like that you buy crisps. they sound more pleasant to eat than the chips that we eat here.

Yeah, "chips" sound as if they broke off of, or were just yanked from the potato.

This could be in an art exhibition, I love the glowing ones and the one on Regent Road looks like you're attracting Dust.

We've decided that we need to do more night time photography. Especially around the coach station.

Good idea. Night Photography has been one of my favorite tasks. The photos have an amazing peaceful quality to them. Plus I love that it is never over. You can keep doing the task, night after night after night. It's like a garden, you can keep planting in it.

Much like Restroom Photography.

"Planting" is an interesting euphemism for restroom behavior....

I've been in love with night photography for ever, but because I don't have a REAL digital camera, it doesn't work so well, and going back to my old one gets to be expensive in film and processing (especially if I return to my old love of Black and White).

You guys definitely have it D O W N though! Really great light effects!

classic treatment, and well executed. what of the effects on your psyches, besides the youngsters who cajoled you? also, what is naff?

vote for conscientious, deliberate tasking when faced with disbelievers...

...and the glow foto(s).

Night photography is indeed a brilliant thing to do. I can't speak for the others, but I certainly enjoyed it.

As for naff, it's an old British slang term for rubbish, amongst other things.
