Night Photography by Haberley Mead
April 6th, 2008 9:52 AMI was out in Stoke with the Fencing chaps (Sports Presentation evening, prizes galore), and come half past two I needed to get home. The university was kind enough to put a bus en route for us at that time, but it would only take us to the Stafford campus. For anybody who hasnt read my previous Tasks along this thread, I'll tell you now - my house is SODDING AGES AWAY from uni. It takes me about an hour to walk home, more if I'm tired and slightly drunk.
...Which I was.
However, all this was deemed unimportant as I left the Civic Hall, and my eyes lit up with innocent childish glee. It was snowing! From the sky! Really! All thoughts of tiredness and bed left my system, and as soon as I got off the bus I knew that I would be doing this Task. Not for the points, or because I was walking that way anyway, but because I knew that this moment wouldn't come again. It is a scientific fact that snow makes everything look prettier, and Stafford was no exception. The following set of pictures are a mix of comments on my feelings, pretty snow shots, and the ubiquitous arty-farty type photos you need to show once you own a camera over about two hundred pounds. Read on!
EPILOGUE
Yep, that was a mistake. Having lived in England for twenty years, I should have thought to take a coat out with me when I left. I'm sitting here with a streaming nose, nasty cough and a generic feeling of shittyness... But who cares? I had fun!
The start
The first views of what was to come! This sight is the very thing that will instantly turn me into a giggling kid, desperately trying to climb on top of cars to do snow angels on the roof. (It didn't work, suit shoes are not best suited for climbing siny slippery surfaces.)
Oooh...
Atmospheric... The uni looks so different at night - it's one of those places that needs to be filled with people to make it what it is. Without people, it's a set of bricks with some nice-looking trees outside.
Push for service?
The wind was really blowing, too - hence why this button was completely covered, and its counterpart across the road was clean as a whistle.
The Court
Ahhh, my old halls... still looks like a jail though. This was about three minutes before half-a-dozen hall doors opened and people started running out into a massive snowball fight - if I didn't have my camera and suit on me, I would've stayed to join in. As it was, I was also yearning for my bed...
Fields of whiteness
...This'll all be gone by morning... I know this, as it is now afternoon and all of it's gone. *sheds a tiny tear*
Find the River
I never knew this view was there - it's only about three minutes away from uni! I really should wander through the woods more often!
Shopping Trolley anyone?
Ah, student accomodation... you can tell by the sheer amount of appropriated asda trollies down the street where the uni people live!
Monochrome
And the standard black and white shot, making you feel all thoughtful... see? I am a real photographer! Honest!
.
This is why I loved this task, it got me looking at things I'd never seen before. This is the entrance to the mental hospital, but once the snow comes down it could just as wekll be the passage to Narnia...
KFC
It's wierd to see places like this closed for the night - in my mind theyre always open for business, selling greasy lumps of whatever to any denizen of the night with enough cash on hand...
The suit
This is probably why people gave me a wide berth last night... not the normal thing to wear in the snow, I'll be the first to admit.
BEDS
God, don't remind me... I'm tired enough as it is! This was still a wy away from my house, and I was starting to flag a touch...
The Mystery
Who here can truly resist an open gate? So, in a way, I also completed Trespassing last night - the graveyard's not meant to be open at night, after all, and there are signs up saying don'e go in, etc. ...Maybe next time I'll do it properly.
Graveyard
Found this in a corner, love the look of it. It's part of a memorial to the Staffordshire men lost in the world wars.
STOP
I couldn't really argue with that, so I thought that'd be a good time to end. This walk was fantastic, but I'm really looking forward to the fireplace, my dressing gown and a mug of hot chocolate.

Oh, the wonders of British weather!
And some of the buildings look a bit like our school...
There's a lot of win here. It looks like you can join Team Zero with two photos you've taken there.
And here's a little "how well do you know Lincoln's tastes" quiz. I can make out six women clearly in the "Club of the Year" photo. Which one of them do I find the most attractive?
I see what you mean Vicki.

MFL or Science Block?
Lincoln: I would be honoured to join Team Zero with these pictures. There's also another couple of pre-tired tasks I'm working on at the moment, actually - I'll add them to my player page if nothing else once they're finished.
GY0 guys: I'm pretty sure that's not your school ... Also, I'd be a bit worried if your school looks like that - that is Staford Court, famed for being based on the blueprints for a Swedish open-security prison...
I love this one:

And I wouldn't be surprised if ours was based on a prison too, it does look very similar. I'll try and get a photo on Tuesday to show you.
I have to agree with Tom on favorite picture. Lovely!
And Lincoln... I'm going to guess the lass that's kneeling on the left... she's the one whose pone number I'd be inquiring after.
JTony, she is lovely (as are they all really), but not the one for me.
From the sky!
A photographic task rolled into a made-me-happy task (or is it the other way around?), and for that I thank you.
Vote for the old oak tree..... And well, most the other ones, too.
