Gain Leverage Against Another Organization by S.N.I.D.E, The Villain, Burn Unit, Lank, SNORLAX

November 5th, 2007 5:27 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Under a false name, attempt to infiltrate another group and steal sensitive documents that will give you and your organization leverage when negotiating a territory swap. The organization you choose to infiltrate does not have to be involved in SF0. You may choose to use your character's name if it is already false.

Not one, but two thefts, leverages, and negotiations, uses of false names/identities/personas.
"I still think this is all an elaborate Aesthematic plot"
main_129417.jpgA) Steal sensitive information:

1) I asked TAFKATV to "infiltrate" the other working T.o.D. group. He did so, under cover of doing evil to our group getting exquisite details. (Oct 16)

2) I had also come into possession of other information from the creators, sensitive for its potential impact on the game. (Late Sept)

B) Territory swap: Two swaps took place.
the waistband segment1)This serious uptight senator took a cynical new and adversarial persona. Using the Villain's info to show I "knew things", I made an absurd video of unvarnished bullshit. I got addresses (sometimes all you have to do is ask) and fedexed the video to one member of the other group, along with a torn section of underwear. (Delivery Wed 10/31)

Then came a player photo flash mob, using the image of a wedgie. I invited two of their collaborators with false info to make them think the worst I had planned was this lame-ass gesture. [This resulted in an amusing counterstrike when recipient of video immediately, unexpetedly added their public face to a bunch of task completions, vaulting it to the front page] (Wed a.m. 10/31)
You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

But the second, unsent, video was way out of bounds. (even planned some footage from the other side of the world, upheaval in Honolulu. I think katotoro would have said "no!" if she'd known why I was asking for it.) When you watch it, you'll see.

Instead of their middle finger to the world, I got the added sensitive info I was after
We stand by our mission statement in its entirety, it is how we have been playing all along and we feel that there is a need for the kind of energy we will bring. (...) We do have different methodology and I'm not sure that I can agree that yours is better.
In becoming the worst possible example of what might happen, I swapped with this troupe of prank monkeys the goody two shoes, seriously over-sincere reputation I have made my m.o. this whole era. Exchanged for the undiscovered country of jacknapery, sass, and villainy. But by extending their own theme to ridiculous extremes, I got a bunch of supposed nihilists to say how sincere they actually were. (Wed afternoon 10/31)

2b) Now I went for my main target, the information swap: bad for good, rumor for fact, cynicism for hope. This uncharted territory was controlled by Sean, Sam, and Ian. I wanted it to stave off the dogmatic stances that lead to less freedom.

Next salvo was an 8 point, overly sappy email to the SF0 creators:
7) I think there would be an unintended consequence of making C.E. this new thing and then other(s) from the Trajectory task don't make it. (...) [they] are easily as good as C.E. from an idea and execution standpoint. (...) I'm threatened by the prospect that January 1 will roll around and the game will reset with some scenario where C.E. replaces Equivalenz and that's it.
My hopes for groups in Insatiability ground on the struggles throughout this era (documents below include email exchanges). (Wed. evening 10/31)

It worked, because Sean replied:
---- Painted Villain on Oct 31 3:50 pm----
I've gotta run, but please see my comment
(...)
and let me know if you think this leaves something important unaddressed.
He delivered public comments on the T.o.D. page, excerpted here,my emphases added:
OK, this is getting a bit too tense. (...) the total number of groups is not fixed at five (...) some visible changes Insatiability will bring concern groups, because we want to make them a better part of SFZero. there's a clear space for something that lets players describe affiliations which may have little to do with the ideological framing of Groups. Anyway, it's going to be fantastic, I promise!
The final touch came after I responded to Sean:
---- Burn Unit on Nov 01 12:27 pm----
awesome. I intend to post a version of this exchange, but it would be better if i have your permission to quote our conversation in my "gain leverage" proof. because the leverage and territory I was after was actually from YOU guys.
[...]

---- Painted Villain on Nov 02 12:58 pm----

Bastard. And here I thought I was preventing a Leverage Gaining from Spiraling Out of Control. Quote away!

Swaps complete, we submit this proof for Gain Leverage Against Another Organization.

Afterword: This praxis written by Burn Unit, after an unsigned note was left in our proof editing page
I will let you write up this praxis, Burn Unit. I have moved on to other endeavors.
Interesting, Villain. I can't wait to see how it pans out...

Is this what you were talking about Vixen?

p.s. love "I have mustache and am not afraid to use it"!

This is really nice.

Once the S.N.I.D.E. sockpuppet isn't listed as a collaborator any more, I think I'll have to vote for it. :) Does this mean you're back to being reasonable, Senator?

Who here knows where I can rent a huge trampoline at??? I've been searching with no luck.

Also, if you happen to know about a warehouse for rent for under $500.00 a day with high ceilings...that would also be rad!!!

What is it about ToD?
posted by Loki on November 6th, 2007 12:24 AM

I've only caught four or five un-submissions since joining the game, and three of them are ToD related. Is it secret agents wreaking havoc and undermining their collaborators?

Sometimes I suspect we're all just puppets acting out roles in some trippy, private game Burn Unit is playing on his own.

I can think of many a worse fate.
