Wear Your Art As Your Sleeve by JTony Loves Brains

January 7th, 2008 2:02 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: The University of Aesthematics has no bookstore with which to gouge you, and no signiture apparel with which to cover. But should you choose to make your membership known, we urge you to make/modify a shirt or other torso-covering garment that proclaims your allegiance. Don't forget to post the "plans" for your garment, as well as a depiction of the completed item.

My heart has been with the U of A since the first day I signed on to SF0, and even now, after a revolution, a war, and an invitation to multicolored tasking, when I want to try other groups' tasks, I find it is a stretch to my comfort level and I gravitate back to the black banded tasks.

So, I endeavored to create an arm band showing the U of A crest. An armband so that I can wear it to alter whatever torso-covering cloth I happen to be wearing at the time whenever I want to show my allegiance to the U of A.

I chose to continue to practice my embroidery skill, and used simple needle and thread to create the badge. Several pictures below show the badge, both in detail and context. I wore it today while playing lunchtime shadow tag with my daughter and her classmates. They seemed to like it, at any rate.

You stitch that yourself? Oh, JTony, you don't need a job, you need advertising!

Yes, I did indeed. Every stitch my own. And, if you're interested in process, as I said in a previous praxis, I am honing my skills by not drawing guidelines on my piece beforehand. For this, I pulled up the symbol on my computer for reference, started with a blank piece of blue felt and some black thread, and started stitching.

If I could find a way to do this for 12 hours a day and get paid a decent amount for my efforts, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Oh, and I'm happy to do commissions. Anyone want me to make you an elder sign?

Awesome.

Did U of A suffer a revolution and a war? I thought they were the same thing...

Yep, there were actually two declarations of war as a result of the revolution task: http://sf0.org/tasks/Declaration-of-War/
Both completions of the Declaration of War task were related to the revolution. I tried to do a declaration of peace, but there was no such task available.

I am always ecstatic when men do needle point and knitting and such. Excellent job especially going at it free style.

Thanks Magpie! I thought you'd like to hear that I knitted my main x-mas presents this year (well, one chrocheted). A Scarf, a hat and a Cthulhu cuddly.

As a new knitter (scarf and hat were my 2nd and 3rd projects, Cthulhu my first crochet project) I'm rather proud and try to share whenever I am given an opportunity. Anyone for a knitting circle?
