Miracles Abound by Lank

INSTRUCTIONS: Invent something to love.

Give it your love as deeply as you are capable.

Then let go without being afraid of loss.

Enjoy both.

I just sent the below email to Minch, with an attachment:

Hi Minch!

Attached is a short play I've been working on for the last two weeks. It's an idea that's been in my head for years but never written down. Your task made me think of it, because to some extent, the play is about letting go without being afraid of loss.

I've poured all of my creative love into this play. This play comes from deep in my heart. I love it dearly.

You are the first to read it. (Besides me, silly.) Please ignore the unfilled-out title page. Part of giving over this play entails leaving my name off of it.

By the time you receive this message, I will have permanently deleted the play from my hard drive. The only existing copy will be this PDF file. I will also have permanently deleted this message (along with that PDF) from my email account. anna one can confirm that I don't have a working printer, so there's no paper copy either. I will have no copy of the play whatsoever, save in the memory of my brain, which is unreliable at best.

Having tried to recreate a short play from memory, the process is (for me) very painful and nigh impossible. I would rather cut off one of my toes than mangle the beautiful, fading memory of this play by trying to crudely piece it together again.

That being said, I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Thanks,

Lank

I wrote the play in a program called Final Draft, then saved it as a PDF to email to Minch. Both files deleted, as well as the email trail.

Although I dislike screen shots as proof almost as much as text-only praxis, below are some screen shots that hopefully corroborate the message. If anyone would like to see what I invented, Minch has it.

I enjoyed writing it very much. Having let go of it, I'm filled with an interesting feeling, somewhat melancholy and proud. I'm enjoying that as well.

Thanks.

An epic CHEAT completion is in your grasp.
OR
Spam mail the play to dozens of hollywood producers.
OR
Hand out copies on BART with cute notes and encouragement to read for pleasure.
OR
Annotate your love for the object in a public place.
OR
Ok... get a whole lot of eggs see...

Dearest Waldo,

I like this option: Annotate your love for the object in a public place.

Might a public performance of said play count as annotation?

With many hugs,
Minch

I whole-heartedly support the idea. If a full-scale production would be entering Deep End territory for you, perhaps a radio-play for the skypecast?

It is not deep end territory, I was an actress once upon a time. But if this happens I will see what I can do to share with the entire community.

Yes, yes it is.

I feel like the keeper of something sacred.

Oh my, it is a lovely little play. And I don't use little in a patronizing way, but as a term of endearment. If I could wrap this little play up in side my heart I would, in fact, I think I already have. Lovely, lovely, and still more lovely.

Thanks, M. I feel the love.

It's interesting how with time I'm starting to forget the details of what I wrote. I wonder how far away the memory will fade...
