Object Annotation by Lank

May 24th, 2007 2:10 PM / Location: 34.090485,-118.2919

INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

One of the things I love about the Metro system in Los Angeles, particularly the Red Line which goes from Downtown through Hollywood to North Hollywood, is that the creators went crazy on the architechtural eccentricities of each of the stations. There is, at the intersection of Vermont Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd., a Metro station that features one such fantastical architectural peculiarity. It is a gargantuan oblong steel structure that leans off-kilter over passers-by. Many have speculated about what the "thing" that hovers over the entrance to this station is supposed to be - a spaceship? A fish? A big waffle iron? I don't know what it is, but it sure is neat.

So I posted my feelings about this structure on the structure itself. And as is fitting for posting your feelings about something you find in your natural habitat, my feelings are in the form of haiku.

UPDATE 6/9/7:

16 days later and it's still there.

The Thing

The Thing

If you look real close, my sign is the white speck about 1/3 of the way up on the underside of the thing.

The Entrance

The Entrance

See the white speck on the massive metal monstrosity?

It's high enough on the Thing that it's legible but way out of reach.

Day 16

So I went back to day and my haiku is still there! I also took new pics, which look much better, since i finally learned how to use my camera phone.

I didn't copy you on purpose, I swear.
Poetry and the red line just go together.
Really.
