Finger painting never gets old by Stu

March 28th, 2008 9:27 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Paint yourself.

JTony, I brought her back. No more worries.

If you'll remember, we last saw Polar Bear Stu slowly sinking to some oddly out of place Jethro Tull. It was moderately disturbing, and I spent the next month and a half looking for her.

I looked everywhere for her, and it was only after my girlfriend stained the bathtub purple with her hair dye that I realized PBStu had been hiding in the arctic, camouflaged against the white porcelain!

I gave her a big hug, and she asked me to do her a favor. "It's been a long time since I've been able to visit with my friends, and I feel out of place after hiding for so long. Can you help me gather up some other critters to help me rediscover non-sexual touch? I have fingerpaints."

I told her I would, of course, and I gathered up the whole gang: Kangaroo, Meerkat, BrightBunny, Curlysnake, Stinkycat, Saddog, Sedentarygoat, and even Mumpweasel.

She decided to apply the first stroke of blue paint herself:

On her belly:

Then some red:

On her leg.

BrightBunny jumped right in, patting some purple on her head:

And she felt more connected. Stinkycat put some green on her belly:

And she felt more grounded. Sedentary goat put some pink on her other leg:

And she felt more spunky. Saddog smeared some yellow on her cheek and shoulder:

And she felt more bright. Snake spread some orange on her arm:

And she felt sort of sticky. Kanga wanted to end the neglect of PBStu's back, so she painted the whole thing pink:

And she felt satisfied.

She posed for her friends, moving around, feeling what it felt like to be connected, grounded, spunky, bright, sticky, and satisfied.

Her friends waved with their various painted appendages:

And Meerkat and Mumpweasel looked on:

And I, the humble photographer, showed that my hand barely got any paint on it, proof that the animals did this mostly on their own:

The end.

And now, I am done with this gimmick, and am transforming back into a human being:

Oh, thank you Stu for bringing her back and showing us all that there's a time to hide and a time to come out of hiding and show all your colors! You have no idea how this brightens my day. And that last juxtaposition between Painted Polar Bear Stu and Painted Human Stu... brilliant! I am so very pleased, for her, for you, and for me who gets to share! Thanks!

JTony: I'm so glad I found all you guys with whom I could share this crazy stuff. It felt good to bring some spring colors into poor, hibernating PBStu's life. And I felt I needed to make myself stop hiding behind a bear, too, hence the picture of me. Thanks for looking!

Someone: I'm so glad. Thanks for looking.

this is eloquent and beautiful. i wish it were a children's book.

"moving around, feeling what it felt like to be connected, grounded, spunky, bright, sticky, and satisfied."

leaves me filled with warm fuzzies.

Thank you, Minch! Being fingerpainted does make one pay attention to one's body in a different way, so I figure a bear would also experience that.

Hooray for warm fuzzies.
