Shopping Commentator by Torsten the dissenter

November 16th, 2007 12:53 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to a grocery store, bookstore, mall etc. and leave commentary on various items throughout the store in the form of post-it notes or any other method you choose. Wit is recommended. Try to capture shoppers' reactions as they read your comments.

Bonus points if your commentary convinces someone to buy something or obviously makes them decide not to buy it.

My darker, shadow self had control for this one. Visiting REI, Flax and Lucky's with non removable labels, I used Multi Use lables from Office whatevers, multi use is too right.

I had to make several trips to Luck's because my memory card kept failing to record some pics but the nice thing was I saw most of my labels still on the products even after about five days or so, I trimmed a lot of them on site to fit the package layout and they just blended right in even with the stuff at eye level.

I wrote, applied and photographed all of these in busy isles with people everywhere, most were slogging along in zombie mode or just couldn't care to notice or notice to care. Once I even had a women reach in through my arms to grab some cereal, she didn't have a care about what I was up to. So much for my sales strategy!

Much of these labels are still up and promoting right now... can't seem to find any prospective consumers, can't imagine why.

When busking...

One of my favorite series of hatlines when I'm busking is as follows:

"Remember kids... if mommy or daddy don't give you five dollars to give to the nice street performer it just means one thing...... they don't love you.

No... I'm just kidding. It means they're not your real parents."

Needless to say I quite enjoyed the diaper series.

and on careful consideration I've deleted the pirate commentary. I also feel once Ninjas aquire some much needed nautical skills Pirates may need all the support and promotion they can amass.
May the wind be at your back!

I had note on a Johnny Depp Pirate Fruit Roll up box expressing my fatiue with the style. I'm a long time supporter of pirate evoltion, not so much the swashbuckling ways but the ubiquitos imagery. Myself, I'd be down for some ninja fruit roll ups, revenge flavor if possible.
I had no desire to upset the widepsread, and well trained pirates of SF0 so in favor of a tidy ship I've removed Johnny from the ranks. The last thing this labler needs, is a mutiny.

holy shit.
