May 15th, 2011 3:29 PM / Location: 59.270296,17.916673

INSTRUCTIONS: Have a candlelight dinner at IKEA. See how long it takes the staff to notice you.

Record the reaction customers have to you, if any. Discuss why you chose the dining room set-up that you did. Photograph yourself having dinner, complete with descriptions of the food you served.

Extra points for using non-plastic tableware and food not from a take-out place. Candles are not optional.

The world's three largest IKEA stores are:
  • Stockholm Kungens Kurva, Sweden: 55200 m2
  • Shenyang, People's Republic of China: 47000 m2
  • Malmö Svågertorp, Sweden: 44000 m

Mediterranean Couscous Salad with Coriander and Cherry Tomatoes

Gnocchi al Limon with sautéed slices of green Avocado

A Variety of Turkish Baklava

Backstory:

With ÅPR currently living in a remote Swedish village, and relet in a remote Norwegian village, they decided to fly to Stockholm to pay an hommage to worlds largest IKEA showroom, praxime. Food was acquired from the supermarkets, tableware borrowed from a friendly Youth hostel, which also provided the kitchen for preparations. The setting was generously (but unknowingly) provided by IKEA Kungens Kurva, Stockholm. As per the task requirements, there were candles, non-plastic tableware, and handmade food. There were, aside from some very odd looks, no noticeable reactions from the patrons or employees. Some customers even took their time to investigate the showroom the two were sitting in.

More random facts can be found in the picture descriptions.

What song is in your soundtrack? Sounds like Barracuda du Nord!

I also enjoy the name of the table you two dined at:

Reservation for Docksta?
Docksta who?
Docksta Task!

Shoulda lit the candles, but I bet that would have drawn more attention.

That's the Black Ingvars with (you guessed it) Här kommer Pippi Långstrump.

I totally agree with the candles. We were just concerned about not setting off the sprinkler system right above the table.

Indeed, we didn't really want to set off the sprinklers because neither of us really needed nor wanted to buy a bunch of water damaged IKEA furniture in Stockholm.

Next time, please, light the candles.
Otherwise, great job.
