Fortune Not Cookie by Jane McGonigal, Dav Flamerock, Kiyash M, Mauro Rey

INSTRUCTIONS: Install fortunes of your devising in permanent or non-permanent media in openable structures, such that passersby will come across them.

When we decided to do a mission together, we decided to do the Taking Tree. You can read about that at the link provided. However, we also wanted to do another one. As we were scanning the list of available missions, we came across Fortune Not Cookie... and we decided that we could drop some fortunes while we hung our items to be taken.

So we wrote up six fortunes on giant post-it notes to hide on our jaunt down Mission St. As we went down the streets, hiding things in trees, we spotted places that we thought were good hiding places, or places with good symbolism. The first target was a Noah's Bagels.

We decided that this target was very fitting because SF0ers are always pushing the limits--trespassing through minor places in order to perform feats of awesomeness. And so we decided to remind our fellow adventurers just what the law states :P
Further, it was easy for me to place, and low enough that most people wouldn't notice very quickly.

Our second target was a sign that we spotted on our walk.

This one we knew most people wouldn't look behind it, but eventually the sign would be taken down and someone would spot it. So we slid it between the pole and the sign. Jane was kind enough to do us the honors.

Our third target was at a bus stop, in which Kiyash insisted we had to leave a fortune.

Kiyash first wanted to plant the fortune on the back of one of the folding bench seats, but just as he was about to do it I spotted a little alcove formed by the back of the map and the glass wall enclosing the bus stop, and since that is an alcove most people won't ever go in I figured it was secluded enough, so Kiyash put it on the back of the map instead. (As you can see in the first picture and in this one, I decided to add quick drawings and sketches to the fortunes)

Our fourth target was in a newspaper stand.

We knew early on that we wanted to place a fortune inside a newspaper and hide it in a newspaper stand. However, finding stands with free papers that someone would actually take proved to be somewhat difficult. We passed up one large group of stands and I think one more before we found a dispenser we could use. Jane pasted the fortune to one of the pages and put the newspaper about four or five papers down, so it wouldn't be picked up right away.

Our fifth target was in a parking meter.

I got the idea all of a sudden to fold a fortune up and put it in a parking meter. I then folded it up and tried to slip it into the coin slot--but to no avail. I nearly gave up when it didn't fit before I noticed what I believe is a bill slot (I don't know--I've never used it!) into which the fortune fit perfectly.

Our sixth and final target was an ATM machine, which Jane suggested because the last message was "You already have everything you need."

Like the last one, I had some trouble figuring out where the fortune could fit. Our first idea was to put it inside the dispenser where cash comes out, but that proved to be automated--it wouldn't open to our prying hands. I checked out all the other potential crevasses, and only the card slot worked, and even then only when I folded the fortune up a certain way. However, it all worked out in the end. I hope they fit whoever finds them perfectly!

100% local situational ignorance has been achieved then.
