(Not) Energy Drink by Susatron, Final Zero

August 20th, 2008 8:47 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Design and produce a ________ drink. The only adjective that you may not insert in the blank is "energy."

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Not really, I just needed an intro. Moving on: Susatron and I had the urge to accomplish a task, but what was to be done? Browsing the list of missions to be completed, this was stumbled upon. Eureka! A new quest was at hand. Browsing the contents of the fridge, we decided to concoct the liquid version of a food. A pie, to be exact. To elaborate even further, a liquid apple pie. After the epic adventure to the market of shipped goods, we came back with these items. Popping them one by one into the blender, the mystical brew was only moments away from completion. A touch of garnish and a label of majesty later, the solution was finished! It was most delectable. Something this delectable needed a great name, so with our powers combined we christened it Apple 3.14159. So it was said and so it was done.

How to make:
2 Cups of Apple Juice
1/2 of an Apple (cut into chunks)
2 Graham Crackers
1 Tbsp Caramel
1/2 Cup of Vanilla Ice Cream
Whipped Cream (optional)

•Pour 1/2 of the Apple juice into the blender, then add your apple chunks to the blender as well.
•Blend till there are no chunks left.
•Add your 1/2 cup of caramel to the blender, then take your 2 graham crackers and crush them. Then add to blender and blend.
•Add the rest of the apple juice.
•Dump the 1/2 cup of ice cream to the blender and mix everything together. Let it run for about a minute.
•Pour into glass and top with whipped cream.

We opted to experiment with this recipe for a birthday shindig:

It looked good:

It tasted good:

Perhaps too good:

So, honest to go, Nazzo added this to it. Gave the drink "kick". I recommend it less than I recommend using green apples for the recipe (not a good idea).

All told, the quality of the apple seemed to be the biggest deciding factor. We think crumbling the graham crackers up less than fully is better, and the caramel might be better substituted with cinnamon, but all told the red-apple batch was delightful.
