Culinary Adventure by Burn Unit, Celina

July 20th, 2006 11:11 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Combine two seemingly different food items to create a new meal/snack. These items should elicit an initial response somewhere along the lines of "yuck" or "gross", but should ultimately be delicious.

Consume the newly created culinary experiment and report your opinion.

For extra points, get someone who is not playing SFZero to try your new item.

When we were younger, some of us indulged in a lot more marijuana use than we do now. It was in those younger days that much mad combining of foods took place and resulted in such classics as lime espresso and strawberry yogurt with spicier nacho doritos "tastes like pop tarts! no really! pop tarts! here smoke this. now, taste this!"

Well our tastes matured, and in the last several years it was hummus and grapes. Mmm dip the grape in the hummus, high or sober, that's good eating. On our recent little picnic, Celina and I decided to go on a culinary adventure as well as a psychogeographical one. Since Celina had never had the grape and hummus combo, we treated her to that making at least for her an adventurous experience.

But in the interest of this task, we set about to create a proper adventure. Taking the hummus for inspiration, we combined it with Fruit Leather. I think Apple Fruit Leather could be totally yuck and we knew we could be biting off more than we could chew.

I don't know if Celina would describe it as "ultimately delicious" or not, but I know I would! Mmmmm, apple fruit leather is delicious with roasted pepper hummus, I assure you. It's thought provoking and unusual at first, but finished lovely. It's a nice convenience food, as well, because the flat surface is very handy for dipping and scooping! MMmmmm, we recommend!

Celina has photos she can post.

it's worth pointing out that our Celina is physiologically unable to experience the sweet taste that the rest of us take for granted.
