Long Haired Freaky People Need Not Apply by Burn Unit

INSTRUCTIONS: Document a confusing, unsettling, or contradictory officially-placed
sign. Explain why it might have this effect.

This should help prepare you to think outside the box...

This is one of the San Francisco signs which gave me the idea for this task in the first place. On my recent visit I was riding the Muni and tried to get off at my stop. In Minneapolis the doors open outward. Looking at the door, I didn't notice (until several bus rides into the week) the sign above the door that says step down.

Being told the doors open inward and not to stand in the stepwell made me hesitate. Hesitate long enough that a woman in the seat near the door banged on the little plexiglass window to urge me to step down so the door would open.

I showed this photo to more than one person here at home and they All said "what? how do you exit the bus if the doors open inward and you're not supposed to be in the stepwell?"

Exactly.

It, along with the definitely-synesthetically-disorienting warning that I should smile for the camera (and? or?) an alarm will sound (BART station in the Mission somewhere), made me wonder if we could collect a whole pile of this kind of strangeness. I believe we can.

I went through that same experience when I first rode the MUNI.
Only the bus I was on just had a sign not to stand in the stepwell.

Then as soon as I learned about those doors I rode one of the buses where yo uhave to push the bar to open the doors.

You must have been stranded on that bus for a long time!

I was almost stranded for a stop, yes.

Also: I'm not going out the front door!
