Public Art Opportunities by Rin Brooker, JC Stade, Raizekiel Malbrandt, Mr. Stackhouse

December 31st, 2008 3:00 PM / Location: 61.144892,-149.8744

INSTRUCTIONS: Create public art opportunities.

T. Keane Baker, Justin Stade, and I all love art. So we thought Public Art Opportunities would be a sinch. First we had to find a place to do it. We went to the nearby city large enough to have malls which is still 56 miles away. I'll tell our tale with pictures.

Us

Us

This is us getting ready to set out on our adventure.

Ice scraper

Ice scraper

Things turned dangerous when the fog from out breaths FROZE TO THE WINDOWS of T's gheto car and T. couldn't see anything at all. I broke out the ice scraper and tried to help.

Scratch

Scratch

Stade and I resorted to using our fingernails to scratch at the biulding layer of ice on our windows as we hit the city.

Safety

Safety

We made it intact! Then we walked around the mall for a bit with out markers looking for a good place to set up.

A boy and his fishman

A boy and his fishman

Stade found a picture of a man with a fish that he planned to color, but he never did.

signage

signage

No one was giving us a second look after we found a place to set up. So, we made some signs to attract the passers by.

Free

Free

And this one because some of them asked how much we were charging.

Aaron

Aaron

After not too long a guy named Aaron showed up to draw with us! What an awesome guy. His presence attracted other people too!

Knockers Lady

Knockers Lady

After Aaron left things were slow until our new friend Knockers Lady showed up. I didn't catch her name but she was awesome.

Nice Old Lady

Nice Old Lady

Our next ner friend came in the form of a nice old asian lady who drew a girl and said we were wonderful people for doing something like this and that she hopes we have a great christmas and get many presents. Sure it was the 30th, but it was a very nice thought. We love her and people like her very much.

Otaku Girl

Otaku Girl

Then Otaku girl showed up, she had a manga magazine that she was very happy about and said she'd draw manga with us.

pikachu

pikachu

She drew a Pikachu!

That's hot

That's hot

Then a douchey security gaurd showed up (you can see his arm on the left) and told us to move along. I know he peobably gets a lot of trouble from kids who look like us, but we were clearly just coloring. We left, but not before getting a picture of Knockers Lady and her amazing creation.

It's a shame that they shut down your operation. I love the cube!

A lavalamp fish :)
But I am really voting for your fantastic scraping-the-inside-of-the-windows pics and how those mean "so, what? we are so going to do this task anyway!". Drive. Welcome.

That girl drew a Coop devil girl? She looks a lot like one of the models Coop uses too.

And damn she's a good artist.

Huzzah people, huzzah I say!

Two key lessons here for tasking in the future. (1) Make a good sign. That makes it seem like a real event. (2) Once a few people stop, others will too. This is because one person acting odd is scary, but several people acting odd together is a party. They figure you aren't nuts if you have friends.
Nice!
