I'm assuming you're on about the Poison Ivy one :) I got cajoled into dressing like a Goddamn Cartoon Character by a bunch of friends wanting to do a bat-villain theme for a con, on the basis that if I was going to be a misanthropic plant-loving redhead with a love of comics, I might as well do a take on that character once. It was a lot of fun, and said photographer is absolutely fantastic at portraits and old friend and if I'm going to steal his work for my player photo on some game, the least I can do is pimp him. Which I have done a better job of in the description now.
(I get the impression it's not 'cheating' on the task if you only engineer the first picture yourself. y? )
I enjoyed your earlier ones as well--but yes, it's the Poison Ivy one that struck me. :) It's a great photo, the costume looks amazing, and your shared traits did make it seem appropriate. I'll admit to a certain fondness for the comics myself, which may also have influenced me... Besides, costumes and roles are fun! :)
I think that as long as one of your player photos was taken for the task, you're fine. I really like that the player photograph is a task--it makes it possible to keep completing it in new and interesting ways (anna one, I'm looking at you).
nicely done with the bodice by the way - i've seen some people just paste leaves on but yours comes out with a more organic feel as the leaves are still mostly free :)
it's always nice to meet other Ivys and see others' costume design - though i'm sorry to hear it's just a 'goddamn cartoon character' to you!
i've taught a course on Batman & Co for the past three years and lately all my fellow teachers & some friends got together to form the United Underworld!
and man, photoshoots are so so fun!
While this is the first time I got dragged out to cosplay, 'goddamned cartoon character' is very much tongue-in-cheek, trust me. I'm a huge fan of comics that touch on deeper stuff, and that series manages to do so far more than one can generally expect of Golden Age roots. My biggest soft spot in that and any other medium is for 'villains' with a cause of their own, something not Mindlessly Evil, but just a bit skewed on the moral compass to make one stop and think. Hence Ms. Isley, and a good fifty hours sewing fake leaves onto a bodice and missing my days in theatre costume shops.
Also yay understated ivy (I'm always interested to see people's take on it). I really like that one. And you and your Harley look like you're having a ton of fun.
That scares me.
Perhaps I have been spending too much time in the garden where real leaves have bugs on them :P
Stunning. Quite literally breathtaking.
