Take Apart by GYØ Ben
June 22nd, 2007 2:53 PMI decided to rip the poor thing to shreds (carefully)... but only to reveal some antique electronics.
There was a lot... a lot... of dust in there too.
After this, it was to the receiver, and on discovering very little in there, I went to the second part of this task.
It took a little while to think about what to make from the very little material I had. Many ideas passed through my mind - a musical instrument set, a marble run... but instead, I went for something a little bit... unorthodox.
I think the pictures and videos speak... pretty much for themselves (well, my titles and captions kind of... speak for them, but you get my drift)
It's a shame things didn't work out *quite* how I planned, though.
Excuse the British accent. Us limeys don't really live in castles and all know the Queen personally.
Something's screwy here...

The first screw (out of two) which I removed to reveal the tasty inner section
The inner sanctum

The workings of the base unit, with squidgy rubber mat, phone buttons and circuitboards
Underbelly

The component side of the circuitboards. There's a hell of a lot of it for a phone that old, but the dust compensates
Clickybutton

This is what sits underneath the receiver button, to reset the call; presumably a cute clicky push-to-break switch
Metal plate

Just about the last thing I removed from the base unit, the metal disc had a very satisfying sound when bent
SF0 - Represented

Just thought I'd chuck in some extra advertising... even if it is just in my living room
So... what actually happened?

The slightly fed up "huzzah" at the end made me laugh.
This is coolio, what was up with the number bit of the chain though?
The video is a study in determination/madness
We can all learn something from this. Phone parts do not work well in domino-style chain reactions.
YellowBear: yeah, it's a fine task - although the video just started working all by itself :)
Frozen Haddock: The number bit of the chain worked as follows: The numbers were all slotted underneath one another, and I assumed jogging one of them would set the rest of them moving, even very slightly
Sean Mahan: Determination definitely, madness... yeah, I suppose you could say that
Ziggy C.: Yes, I agree wholeheartedly.
Don't lie Ben. I know for a fact that you were round Buck House on Friday talking to Liz. And Forbes Castle is visable from here, high above the world on Smith Hill
I can see his castle now.
He is flying the good old St Georges Cross from the battlements right now.
I bet he's on the lawns, drinking tea and eating cucumber sandwiches.
Your dulcet English tones require no excusing young man, hold your head high and be proud to be British what, what!
*Dons her own monocle*
your inept rube goldberg machine made me weak in the knees :)
What actually happened..?.. NO!!! The last pic is missing...!!!>>>!!!! AAHHH I neeeeed to know.
I vote for you being the first to take on this task, nicely done. Just the sort of thing i was thinking of when I suggested it.
*Edit* Oh thank you for getting the video to work! Splendid effort, made me laugh out loud.
