Dominoes
The humble ebony knights of the puzzling world. The black of the wood intercepted only by the piercing white spots of truth.
It is these traits which, according to recent findings, see the domino as a direct relative of the monolith in Kubrick's big-hitting film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
It was here that the giant monolith began to take shape as the domino, as it became a lot smaller over millions of years. In the late Cretacious period, it began to fend off groups of Chess Raptor as the lesser-spotted Dividosaur.
Later in the same millenium, a disease spread through the Chess Raptor population, completely wiping out the LSD. However, there is one remaining survivor of the species crash: the common ladybug.
These ladybugs, in 1406, got intoxicated by various things, and began to lay rectangular eggs. The young from the eggs, due to their odd shape, did not survive very long, and so became the traditional domino shape, when discovered by Francis James Domino in 1408.
The domino design has spawned many good ideas, such as the domino effect, or in the natural world, the mating dance of the ladybug - which both look very similar.
