Service Box Attached To Streetlight by susy derkins
February 18th, 2008 10:49 PM / Location: 19.307396,-99.21049But that was because I didn´t need to: I found an appropriately large and permanent pole with a box already attached to it.
So I used it. That´s the way of the parasite. Deal with it.
But the box does provide something resembling a service, allright.
Is a lending library.
So there.
Look at the piccies and read on.
Service box in service

The box is located right in the middle of a busy a bus stop (bus stops here are kind of approximate...). People stared at me while I worked (there was some cleaning to do before the books could be safely rested on that surface) but no-one got closer right away, or asked me about it.
Sign

In English it would say: Lending library. If you are interested in any on these, READ it and then GIVE IT AWAY. And I put the mysterious SF0 address below.
Books that I don´t plan to (re)read ever

"What did they do to my country, man?" (OK, but is not something that I want to read again), "The Harp and the Shadow" (too stiff), "Family violence and Feminine Identity" (written by an acquaintance, sorry Juanis) and wonderful "The citizen in my shoes" (it HAS to be enjoyed by someone else!).
More books

Great poetry, love chronicles, herbal remedies and a thick science/evolution/environment collection of essays. There are many make-someone-happy flavors.
The sign inside the empty box I found

In English it would say: WARNING These phones have an intelligent sensor installed that detects the person who is picking it or covering it. (In just 3 seconds alerts via modem and in 2 minutes our anti-bandalism (sic) brigades will be there for him). IS A FEDERAL CRIME AND YOU WILL BE SENT TO JAIL Do not steal. To work is more honest and safer.
There it is!

Well, OK, is far, from the other side of the highway. And my cell phone camera has zero zoom. But can you see it? Right there? The tiny white lump? And it might very well be my imagination, but in the last frame there is a greyish lump standing by it: a customer! Make that two customers! Yes siree! OK, ok, is worse than the man on Mars. But I am pretty sure they didn´t last an hour :) I´ll go check tomorrow, maybe the sign is still up.

Yeah, that sign is an anonymous public gift. Signs are great.
Please do not enter. If you don´t know how to read please ask at the ticket office. Thank you.
Lowteck vote?! Master utility box-attacher himself?! I am deeply honored indeed, sir.
You mean you're going back to restock? That's awesome!
Ah, yes, the same thing is called libro libre here, is great. I am about to set free a Michael Ende book :)
OK, this needs to be a task... I hope you don't mind me writing it up suzy...
Among bridge players in this area, I am told it is customary to "loan" books with the expectation that they'll be passed on to those who need to learn from them rather than being returned.
Do not steal. To work is more honest and safer.
That is a great sign. And a mini library is a great idea for a bus stop.
